A Demon's Past
Chapter 1: Exploring the Castle
The castle was big. Much bigger than what he had ever pictured before. He looked at the tall ceilings and giant brick walls as he sat on the bed.
"I'm bored. I want to go look around." Sebastian demanded.
"Sebastian, you need to unpack your things first." Charles sighed in annoyance.
This was the third time they had had this discussion.
"Fine."
Sebastian opened his suitcase, grabbed all his belongings, and stuffed them in the dresser drawer.
"Done. Can I go now?"
"That doesn't coun- fine. I can't deal with this right now. I'm going to be late for work. Go ahead, but your going to put your things away properly when you get back, but-"
"Finally." Sebastian said as he jumped off the bed and ran out the door.
"But don't get into any trouble!" His father yelled after him.
Sebastian ran down the hallways taking in the extravagance of the castle, running up the staircases, and looking in each and every room. The castle was overwhelming. Sebastian had never seen so many expensive belongings: the foreign tapestries, the gold decorations, even the window curtains were made of expensive fabrics.
"Do you want more tea Mr. Bear?"
Sebastian paused in confusion at the new voice.
"Manners Mr. Bear!" the voice said sweetly.
A girl? Sebastian thought and went to look for where the voice came from.
Sebastian opened the big oak doors and came to a room that was obviously for a little girl.
"Huh?" The girl turns around to see Sebastian standing in the doorway.
She had long light blonde hair, a sweet face, and was wearing a very expensive frilly dress.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"Sebastian. Who are you?"
"Alaina. Do you want to play tea party with Mr. Bear and I?"
"That's stupid." Sebastian turns around to go explore the rest of the castle.
"But I want to play! Please?"
"Only little girls play tea party."
"What about dolls or dress up?" Alaina asked. She never got to play with kids her own age.
"Thoes are all girly things. I'm going." Sebastian said turning to leave.
"Wait!" She pleaded.
Sebastian looked back over his shoulder with boredom.
"Hmm." Alaina thought with a contemplative look on her face. Suddenly her face lit up. "Do you want to see something?"
"See what?" Sebastian said with his head turned toward Alaina.
Alaina hopped towards her window and grabbed two flowers pots. One flower dead, and the other alive.
"You promise not to tell? It's a secret." She whispered as a grin spread across her face.
"Alright?" Sebastian shrugged.
Alaina lit up with a smile then closed her eyes. Suddenly the living flower started to become brown and shrivel up while the other became alive and vibrant. Sebastian looked at the plants then at Alaina with amazement.
"Pretty cool huh?" Alania smiled.
There was a long pause while Sebastian just stared at the girl.
"How did you do that?"
"I don't know. I've always been able to do it." Alaina shrugged as she put the flowers back on her windowsill. "Now what do you want to play?" She asked as the door to her room opened once again.
"Alaina! Who is this boy in your room!" Miss Bell yelled standing in the doorway. She was a portly woman with short brown curls and a full face.
"Sebastian." Alaina said.
"Why is he in your room!"
"We were having fun." Alaina stated, confused why Miss Bell was so upset.
"You are the Young Lady of this house and you should not have boys in your room! You are my responsibility and I will make sure you grow up to be proper! Young man come with me!" Miss Bell commanded as she grabbed Sebastian's wrist and began to pull him away.
Sebastian struggled against Miss Bell as she dragged him down the various corridors with Alaina at their heels. He was still struggling when they came into a large study.
"Lord Henry, I'm sorry to interrupt however this young man was in your daughters bedroom."
"Sebastian! What did I tell you about getting yourself into trouble?"
"Mr. Michaelis, you know this boy?" Asked Lord Henry turning to his new butler.
"Yes, this is my son. I am so sorry about this. I will take care of it." Mr. Anderson apologized.
"It's not his fault!" Alaina chimed in making all the faces in the room turn towards her. "I wanted to play." She said bashfully shuffling her feet and looking downwards at the floor.
"Alaina. What am I going to do with you?" Sighed Miss Bell placing her hand on her forehead. "Lord Henry, I'm sorry to have bothered you with this trivial matter. Come Alaina. It is time for your studies."
As Miss Bell leads Alaina out of her fathers study Alaina turns around and waves at Sebastian.
"I hope we get to play again!" She says with a smile on her face.
"Whatever." Sebastian muttered looking away from her.
Inside, though, he was smiling.
