A/N: I feel something is lost in the formatting of this one as I am unable to give it the layout it was intended to have. It is not meant to rhyme, but it does have a rhythm if you can find it. This one I always viewed as coming from a slightly older Sarah reflecting on His Majesty and the events that followed.

Disclaimer: All things Labyrinth are not mine.

"Deception"

I listened to your sad song,
and my eyes filled with tears,

Your magic gripped me
in its spell of illusive dreams.

Your dispassionate stare
awakened my every fear.

My soul cried in despair
for a love that could not be.

An inarticulate longing,
a poignant heartache;

My heart and mind in turmoil
over what is real,

And what is illusion.
The deceptions it creates.

The mystical enchantments
that changed the way I feel.

Once bright dreams, broken-
shattered by Reality,

Raised up by your powers
of enchantment and magic.

You awakened every emotion within me;
A stormy riot of feelings,
joyous and tragic.

And yet, I was able to overcome Deception,
The labyrinth-like maze of your twisted creation.

A/N: Originally posted to the Labyrinth Mailing List on Sept 25, 1997. I will first be posting those poems that were so kindly preserved in the Labyrinth Archives. This will allow me time to locate the binder in my shed that has these poems and such within it. I am hopeful that as I dig out Christmas decorations, it will magically appear. :)

I would also like to point out that in writing poetry that is inspired by Labyrinth, it may come to your attention that mine are rather abstract. While I have no issues writing in abstract or concrete veins, I much prefer the abstract forms of poetry, especially with a subject matter such as Labyrinth. They leave more open to interpretation, but that is just my humble opinion.

Progress on my actual story fics continues!
