Chapter 1

"Rusty. I'm leaving. Lieutenant Provenza just called we have a case. I don't know when I will be home." Sharon shouted down the hall to find Rusty just coming out of his room.

"No problem, I'm coming by later to go over my paper with Buzz. Let me know if you need lunch."

Sharon smiled at the young man, "Thank you, Rusty."

"Sharon," He asked hesitantly, "Is everything Okay with you and Andy? I don't want to pry but I heard him leave last night and it didn't exactly sound happy,"

Sharon sighed it had been two months since that first night with Andy and more mornings than not he was here and Rusty was use to him being here. "I'm sorry sweetie if you overheard us. Did you hear what we were discussing?"

"Sharon, the word is fighting and no I couldn't tell what you were fighting about but I assume it's not my business. " He answered her

"Well, I actually do want to talk to you about some of it." Sharon could see the immediate worry in his eyes. That he was the cause of them fighting, "Listen, don't worry, nothing was because of you I promise you and you always come first. Andy and I will be fine, sometimes in new relationships there are old things that have to be dealt with and those things aren't always easy. We will talk more tonight, Okay."

"No problem. I will see you later.' He said

Sharon made her way to the elevator remembering the fight last night. She hated that they fought, she hated that they fought about Jack, and she really hated that she asked Andy to leave.

"I don't understand why you are doing it this way Sharon." He said for what seemed like the 100th time. "Why are you giving him a choice? What is he say Okay, I will adopt Rusty with you? Then what?"

"You have to trust me Andy, I know what I am doing. I have to make him think it's his choice." She answered him again

"Why, why do you need to make it his choice? Why not just say, 'Hey, Jack you are a complete bastard who left me multiple times, cheated on me drank and gambled away our money and I'm done with you."

"Well, thank you Andy for making me feel so much better. I think it's time for you to go home." She said in her Darth Raydor tone.

"Sharon, I'm sorry, what I said, wasn't ..." he started but she cut him off.

"Just go home Andy, obviously this isn't something we need to talk about anymore."

He looked at her for a few minutes and tried to take her hand but she pulled away, "Okay, I will leave. I love you" he said before walking out of her room. When she didn't respond she heard him close her door and the door to the condo with a thud.

The elevator doors opened and Andy was standing there holding a cup of coffee.

"Andy, you should be at the crime scene." She said as she started to walk past him.

"The victim isn't going to be any more or less dead in 20 minutes." He responded, "I need to apologize for last night and for my attitude about you dealing with Jack in general. I hate him so much and honestly yes if it was up to me you would never have to see him again."

"Andy, first he and I share two children so we will always have to see him. Second, he's a defense lawyer and we are cops so we are going to have to deal with him on that from too. I need you to trust me that I have learned how to deal with him and I know what I'm doing. I'm not going to let him hurt me.'

Andy moved closer to her and looked into her eyes and smiled at her, "You said we. that we would have to deal with him."

She closed the reaming space between them wrapping her arms around her neck, "Yes, Andrew, I said we, did you doubt that?"

He looked down at her with saddens in his eyes, "I said stupid things and you sent me away. I didn't know."

God she loved this man, "Andy, what you said wasn't that far off base and I shouldn't have sent you away, I'm sorry. "

He leaned in and kissed her softly, "So, if this was our first fight, does that mean we can make up?" he asked her playfully.

She stepped out of her arms and pushed him away with a smile, "Go to the crime scene Lieutenant. I will see you at the office. Solve this case and we can talk about making up."

"Yes, Mam! "He said pulling her in for one more kiss. "I love you and again I'm sorry"

"I love you and you are forgiven."

Andy felt his hand grip around his phone at the sound of Jack's voice. His eyes immediately went to Sharon who exuded nothing but calm, not even acknowledging him until after she they finished discussing the case. He could feel his own blood pressure starting to rise as he thought back to their last run in with Jack a few weeks ago.

It was Friday night and they had just finished dinner. The restaurant had been crowded and they had parked a couple of block away and it was getting late. "Why, don't you wait here and I will go get the car." He suggested letting go her hand. They were trying to be discreet. The only people who they had told were Rusty and Chief Taylor. "Okay, but don't be too long." She said with a slight flirt to her voice, remembering the way his hand and been on her leg under the table most of dinner. "Oh don't worry" He smiled back.

Sharon was lost in her own thoughts when she heard the familiar voice. "Oh, Shar-on" Jack called walking, more like stumbling out of the bar next to where they had been eating. He looked Sharon up and down over her dress and heals. It was obvious she was not dressed for work. "What do we have here? Is my wife out on a date? Lord knows you haven't dressed like that for me in decades."

"Go away, Jack, you are drunk and I don't deal with you when you are drunk." She told him coldly

"Oh, there's the tone that I know. Looks like whoever you put that dress on for isn't going to have any luck tonight. "

"Jack, I'm out with friends and waiting for my ride. Now leave me alone."

"Oh, I don't think so. You can't expect me to see you like this and not remember what.."

"You can remember whatever you want but that's all in the past Jack. We are done."

"Sharon, if we were done you would have divorced me."

"Oh wait it's coming."

"Ha, I will believe it when I see it.' He reached for her arm and she pushed him away causing him to stumble a bit. "Bitch" he swore at her

"What's going on Captain?" Andy said coming up behind them his voice showing a lot more calm than he was feeling.

"Nothing Lieutenant, Jack was just leaving."

"Andy Flynn, don't tell me you got stuck driving the ice queen home." Jack slurred his words

"I'm happy to help the Captain out, Jack get a cab and go home."

Andy didn't hesitate to put his hand on Sharon's back and guide her to the car.

"Be careful with my wife Flynn." He called after them

"Keep walking and ignore him." Sharon said quietly

When they got in the car and Andy looked back and could see Jack stumble into a cab. He placed a hand on Sharon's face, "Are you okay?" he asked her. "Yes, thank you for not confronting him." She said and she kissed. "I didn't this time Sharon, but I can't promise that every time if he continues like that." She sighed softly, "I know, hopefully Gavin will have the papers done soon and this can be over."

So here they were Jack waiting in her office and Sharon going to talk to him. Without thinking Andy stood and followed her for a few step. She turned and looked at him. She didn't say a word but he knew exactly what she was thinking. "You're not coming in here. You can't. I know what I'm doing. Trust me."

He looked back at her and she could read his look too, "I don't trust him. I do trust you and I will be here waiting if you need me." He was always there waiting when she needed him. She gave him quick smile before turning, she closed the door and the blinds. It was time to close this chapter of her life.
