The More the Merrier
"Hello!" John called out when he arrived home. As he looked around for any indication of his girls he removed his jacket, loosened his tie, and set the keys down on the table. "Where are you guys?" John asked as he headed up the stairs. Maybe Anna was giving their daughter a bath. When he reached the top of the stairs, John found Anna standing in the hallway just outside of their daughter's bedroom door. "Hey, there you areā¦" John began to speak, but Anna quickly turned to face him and placed a finger to his lips.
"Shhhhh," she whispered before pressing her lips against his.
John's mouth curved into a smile as he accepted the warm feeling that coursed through him. "I don't understand. What's going on?" he asked back in an equally low voice. Their lips had parted but his hands settled on her hips and she turned in his arms so that his front was pressed against her back.
As John leaned his head down to place a gentle kiss on Anna's shoulder she whispered, "Look."
John raised his eyes to look in the direction that Anna was, his chin still resting on her shoulder. Their little girl, Amelia, was keeping herself entertained as she played with her new baby doll John had given her for Christmas. She was every bit her mother's child, from her crystal blue eyes to her soft, blonde hair. John and Anna both smiled as they watched Amelia sing to her baby doll and pretend to change it's diaper. "Looks like we'll have an extra set of hands to help us out in a few months," John noted as his hand drifted down to the bump just above Anna's waist. They had just found out about their pending arrival a month ago. The idea of having two children running around their home was a little daunting, but it had been welcome news.
"She seems to be taking our announcement very well," Anna remarked with a cheerful smile. After all Amelia had been their first; they didn't want her to feel left out or any less important now that another little one was on the way. "She's a little mummy in the making," Anna said with a smile gracing her face.
"She'll be an excellent big sister," John stated with a proud smile.
"I just hope she isn't too disappointed if it turns out the baby isn't a girl like her dolly," Anna teased. She was hopeful that this time around they'd have a boy; perhaps she'd be lucky enough for him to take after his father in likeness.
"I think she'll be happy no matter what. Either way, it's a another playmate for her to dote on. Besides, I rather enjoy the idea of having another little girl. Takes after her mother and I already have experience with raising a girl. What's not to love?"
Anna could only shake her head and smile. John had not shied away from playing with Amelia's baby dolls or dressing her up in frilly clothes. They already loved one little girl so much; another would just as easily fill their hearts with love.
