Waiting
Disclaimer: I own no part of NCIS.
Abby stood at her computer screen trying to remember what she was supposed to be doing. About an hour ago she got word that Gibbs' team had been ambushed and there was still no word if they were ok. She loved their little group, but one more than the rest. And the thought of him hurt, or worse, was tearing her apart inside.
One hour turned into 5 and it was time for her to go home. She packed up her things as a the tears started to spill down her cheeks. She slowly drove home and sat on the couch waiting. What if he was hurt? What if he was... No she couldn't bare the thought of that.
She heard the keys in the door and stood up wrapping her arms around herself. Panic started to overtake her.
He stood in the doorway of the living room looking at her. His left arm in a sling, black eye and a deep cut above his eye. Tears started pouring down her face as she looked at him. He wasn't sure how mad she was going to be so he didn't move.
"How could you not call me or have at least someone tell me who you were?" She asked quietly through her tears.
"I didn't know you even knew about it. I didn't want you to worry."
"I worry EVERY time you go out on a case. Why are you just standing there?"
"Not sure I want to get beat up twice in one night."
Slowly she started to walk towards him. He looked terrible. She ran her hand slowly down the uninjured side of his face. Touching him and feeling his warm skin proved to her that he was still alive.
"Have I ever hit you Gibbs?" She asked sensually.
"Never Mrs. Gibbs." He replied with a little smile that always set her at ease.
He took her hand and led her to the couch so they could relax together. It had been a long day for both of them. She sat at the end and he laid down with his head in her lap.
"You need to remember how much you are needed her with me. I can't do this alone Gibbs." She said, running her fingers through his silvery hair.
"I know." He looked in her eyes and then turned to her abdomen.
"Your mommy worries too much."
