After the Fall

Summary: Friends of John's had died before, he was in the army – it was unavoidable. But none had been quite like this.

AFTER THE FALL

Friends of his had died before. He'd watched friends die before. Had them pass away under his forever steady doctor's hands even has he willed their hearts to keep beating. It had hurt like hell every time.

This didn't hurt. It was a dull ache – the absence of pain was painful.

He'd been so alone and then – for eighteen or so Goddamned glorious and frustrating months – he'd felt so alive again.

Losing it for the second time was like nothing he'd ever felt before.

Helplessly watching another friend fall, watching Sherlock fall, was like watching his whole world crashing down.
