Based on the in-game review left at the inn on disc one, written by Lani. Thought it would make for an entertaining scene!
It had been a long journey from Treno. Lani had travelled nearly the length of the entire darn continent on foot, and she was cranky. She had had a decent enough time in Treno, carrying out jobs for shady people, especially King, who often hired her to "take care of" people that caused a problem in the auction house. The journey to Lindblum, however, had been an arduous one. Her first words upon laying eyes on the castle in the distance were, "Winning this damn festival better be worth my while!"
Now, she stared at the ceiling of the hotel room. It had long ago gotten dark outside, and after arguing with the man at the counter of the inn earlier, she had of course been given the only private room in the inn, but she couldn't sleep. It wasn't that she was excited about the upcoming Festival of Hunt, although it was true that she couldn't wait to cut down beasts and rivals alike to win. It wasn't that she was keyed up from her travels, or too tired to even sleep. No, it was none of those things. It was the damn moogle that, for some reason, was in her private room.
"Kupo. Kuuupo." The moogle sighed, for what Lani thought must be the millionth time. If she had one gil for every time she heard that thing, she could BUY King's mansion. Scratch that, she could buy Lindblum Grand Castle…
"Kupo?" Lani clenched her teeth. The moogle was looking at the moons outside the window with idiotic curiosity. "Kupo."
"I said, will you shut up?" Lani hissed. The moogle looked at her briefly.
"I didn't say anything, kupo." He replied.
Lani rolled over and glared at him, her patience running seriously thin. "Okay bat-rat, do you see that axe right there? Because one more peep out of you and you are going to get to meet it. Do you understand?"
"Kupo." The moogle replied disdainfully. "I am a moogle, not a bat-rat. And I don't know why you have a problem with me, sitting here quietly observing the twin moons, but I'm always here in this inn, kupo."
Lani growled and rolled over in response. Maybe if she kept her back to him…
There were a few moments of silence, followed by a deliberate, "…Kuuuuupo."
"THAT'S IT!" Lani yelled. She sprung from her bed and grabbed hold of her axe. The moogle sprang from his place by the window, flapping his little wings. She chased him around the room, swinging her axe madly. She was making quite a commotion, with several things knocked over and broken, and there was a loud knock on her door.
"What's goin' on in there?" Called the innkeeper.
"She's trying to kill me, kupooo!" The moogle called, and Lani yelled, "Damn right I am!"
The innkeeper threw open the door, and Lani stopped swinging, her axe in mid-air. His mouth hung open a moment before he said. "Um, Moodon, perhaps you should stay in the room next door?"
"K-kupo." He replied, and fluttered over Lani's head and quickly out the door.
The innkeeper stared at Lani and she stared back, axe still raised. He slowly closed the door.
She exhaled and tossed her axe to the floor, where it clattered loudly, not that it mattered. At this point, there was a lot of murmuring next door. Clearly, all of the guests had been awaken. Lani stomped back to her bed, flopped down, and got comfortable. "Finally," She mumbled. "Now I can get some sleep."
She was just beginning to drift, as the voices in the other room quieted, when she heard a different muffled sound through the wall. "Kupo."
Lani sprang from her bed and again grabbed her axe, but instead of storming into the other room, She stomped down the inn stairs into the lobby. "I CAN'T STAY IN THIS DAMN PLACE WITH THAT DAMN RAT-BAT!" She yelled, although the innkeeper was not at his desk. She grabbed a feather pen and angrily scribbled a review in the book. The feather snapped and she cursed, throwing it to the ground. She stomped out of the inn, knowing that she wouldn't find anywhere else with vacancies. It was only a few nights before the Festival of the Hunt, after all.
As she crossed the square in a rage, she turned back once to look up at the inn. She saw the moogle sitting by the window. He smirked, or at least it certainly looked like a smirk even on that little rat face, and she could have sworn he mouthed "kupo" at her.
