They watch the sunset
They watch the sunset together. Red, orange, yellow, tints of pink and soft purples. No need for words.
He is smiling, a smile filled with contentment but also tainted with sadness. Her honey eyes, too, engaged with a certain sorrow, though her laughter and glowing skin betray nothing of their circumstances; of what is to come.
The sun is lower now, their time together flowing swiftly through the hourglass; shades of crimson deepening and soft hues slowly diminishing under the horizon to reveal the bitter truth.
Before long they will have to face the horrors that await them, though whilst the sun still lingers they too remain by the other's side.
Basking in the glory of the fiery heavens, he draws her closer to him, a protective yet futile gesture. His gaze retreats from the shrinking sun to wonder at her beauty, to memorise her vividness, strange quirks, sparkling eyes. In turn, she is looking at him with equal intensity, drinking in his every detail, imprinting his sombregrey eyes into her heart and soul.
Soon, all too soon, the sun is a mere deep burgundy gleam and glancing one last sweet, painful glance, these two beings born into opposing sides of war forever part.
A last blood glow before the sun withers and dies. It is gone. In absence of the blazing sphere that gives life and hope the woebegone blanket of darkness shrouds a bleak and bare landscape. The night is in mourning for the lost lovers who will no longer watch the sunset together.
