Authors Note: Hello Castle Fandom! This is my very first Castle fanfic which was written as soon as I watched "Watershed" (please tell me I wasn't the only one in tears at the end?!) anyways, on with the story :)
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, but y'know...Christmas isn't too far away...
Daybreak
Like a beacon of hope, the morning sun of New York streamed through the large panel window in Richard Castle's loft and provided him with a perfect start to his new life. It was not a decision he had taken lightly, but leaving the 12th Precinct was in everybody's best interests. It wouldn't work out, he knew it, she knew it, and so did everybody else, even though they wouldn't admit it.
He had taken a seat at the window and turned his back on his laptop and shelves. This was a rare moment in which he could enjoy watching New York without thinking about the horrors that he knew, and that she knew, were committed on a daily basis. Castle couldn't help but be slightly grateful to the murdering psychopaths that stalked the New York streets.
It was murder that had brought him to her. It was murder that allowed him to show how much he cared about her. But it was not murder that had caused events to change. Oh, no. They had done that all by themselves. Although, he secretly thought, it was murder that had changed the dynamics. The arrangement. Who knew that murder offered promotions. No, don't go there.
A noise sounded from somewhere in the loft. Somebody was getting up and this was the perfect excuse to make a delicious breakfast. Castle would need all the brain power he could get to finish drafting his latest book by sundown. He wasn't quite sure how to end the book and was thankful that there was another one before the end of the series. Black Pawn had approached him about renewing the contract, but he wasn't sure if Nikki Heat could carry on after this. Castle wasn't mortified with that idea, and neither was his notebook judging from all the new ideas that was scribbled on the pages.
He moved confidently into the kitchen area. On his way to the stove, he grabbed the frying pan and the mixture. Well, what could he say? Pancakes were a great start to the day. Castle stood patiently at the stove waiting for the pancakes to cook to perfection. A little mixture flew out of the pan onto his plain navy blue t-shirt, but he just cursed at the initial heat and then licked it off. Waste not, want not, he reminded himself.
The aroma of pancakes was the best in the world, he and Alexis had decided. And he knew more people agreed with him, which was precisely why he was making them. Castle turned down the stove and went to retrieve plates, cutlery, and of course, maple syrup and whipped cream. While he was searching, he failed to notice another presence in the room.
He first become aware of the person when a sweet fruity aroma swirled around his nose. Without warning, two strong arms wrapped around his waist and a head leant gently into his back. Castle turned in surprise and the mystery person moved their hands to rest on his chest. Neither one acknowledged the other, they simply started at the persons left hand.
The beautiful morning sun of New York, which was admired by many, had allowed its' rays to reflect onto a small sapphire stone which was embedded into the silver band of her engagement ring.
Castle smiled softly, "Good morning Kate."
Authors Note: short I know, but I really liked writing it. Reviews are very much appreciated!
