Data Never Tells Lies

By: Gwynhafra86

Inui gave a sigh and leaned back against the tree, to which his back was propped up. Casually, he flipped through his faithful green notebook, which was worn out from all the years of data collecting. Both Inui and his notebook were inseparable, part of each other, one could say. Inui noticed that some of his data was outdated, and he flipped to a new page and started scribbling in it, updating the entries. Pausing a while, he chewed on the tip of his pen as he simulated one Echizen's latest matches in his mind. He had to get the angle of Echizen's latest Drive C correct. Data does not tell lies, but for that to happen, his data must be perfect.

A low buzz near him was slowly, but surely distracting him. At first, he tried to ignore it and concentrate instead on the match playing in his head. However, the buzz just wouldn't stop, and it remained at a constant pace, playing like background music to go with the match in Inui's mind.

He gave a sigh and gave up, lowering his notebook. He glanced to his left. Just as he had calculated, it wasn't a buzz. Shinji had begun his usual routine of mumbling again.

"How nice. Kamio and Ann had left for a date. Though as to why Momoshiro-kun was there too, I wonder. Maybe it's a threesome? Tachibana-san wouldn't be pleased at all if he sees this. I wonder if Tachibana-san knows about this. He's probably having a match with Chitose-san right now. Chitose's so lucky. He has the Pinnacle of Great Wisdom. Just like Tezuka-san has the Pinnacle of Hard Work. Ah. Didn't Tezuka-san beat Chitose-san with the Pinnacle of Hard Work too. How lucky, he has opened both doors. I wonder if I would be able to open any of the doors."

Inui buried his head behind his notebook, hiding a smile. Shinji always spoke his thoughts aloud, and far too often for his own good. While 90 percent of Shinji's words were usually personal insights, at least there was still hidden data in between the lines. Even Inui didn't realize that his black-haired kouhai was on a date today. Ii data...

His pen worked ceaselessly, as did Shinji's mouth. The blue-haired Fudoumine player had finally stopped his mumbling as he now turned a gaze to Seigaku's data master.

"What are you writing?" The former asked curiously.

"Good data, of course." Inui replied. Would Shinji expect anything else from him?

Shinji blinked once. "Data on what?"

Inui adjusted his glasses, a mysterious grin spreading slowly on his face. "Se-cret" He replied evilly.

Shinji looked rather put out. His mumbling started anew, with Inui as the subject this round. "Inui can be so mean sometimes, not sharing his data with other people, and not even to me even though we're supposed to be dating. Where would this relationship be heading to anyway? He pays more attention to that green notebook of his anyway. How nice. I wish I could be a notebook. Even now he's scribbling away. Ah. I've just remembered I have homework to do. I might as well go home now since there is nothing to do here anyway. Inui probably wouldn't even notice if I'm gone. I-"

Shinji's words were cut off as Inui leaned over and sealed his lips over Shinji's silencing him. Shinji didn't even protest as he returned the kiss with equal fervour.

Inui's notebook had fallen to the ground during their display of affection, and a gust of wind flipped the pages, stopping at the very last entry.
