Thanks for sticking with me through this long break. Here is one of eight one-shots that I wrote; these will be the last of my writing except for my collab with Frankielynn (which is still in the works and will take awhile to get out).
Thank you to the wonderful twilightladies1 and Edward'sMyObsession1971, who preread this for me, and the amazing idealskeptic, who beta'd.
MOMD
I replayed it all in my head as I watched you with her.
When we were children and I told you that you had to marry me and I kissed you on the cheek. How we would lay in the spring grass by the river under the big oak tree watching the clouds go by in the sky. The day we went to the county fair you bought me a balloon and cotton candy, and then won me a giant bear at the ring toss game. Our senior prom, when I was crowned queen but instead of dancing with the chosen king, I refused and went back to you. My king.
We had some good times, and every night I would play those memories over and over in my head until I could watch them like movies as I slept.
The day we broke up, I stopped living. It was a year ago now. Everyone had been surprised by our break-up. Our parents, who had been planning our futures already, were devastated.
When you decided to bring home a new girlfriend to your parents' Labor Day party, knowing I would be here, everyone was stunned.
As I watched you with her, I couldn't help but notice the distance between you both. I would catch you watching me every few minutes. Our eyes met and I could see the longing in them.
Using our ability to have silent conversations, I told you meet me in the house.
Standing up, I walked to the back door, only stopping once to help your mom carry out a bowl of potato salad. I could feel your eyes on me the whole time.
I walked up the stairs toward your bedroom, where we had spent so many nights together. I waited for almost ten minutes before you appeared behind me, shutting the door with a soft click.
"She's beautiful. Maria, right?"
"She's not you."
"You broke up with me, Jasper."
"I know. We had been together since we were children; I needed to see if this is what I really wanted."
"And have you decided yet?"
"Yes." You crept up behind me, wrapping your arms around me and nuzzling your face into my neck.
I enjoyed your body pressed against me for a moment before pulling away. Turning toward you, I leaned in and whispered in your ear, "Come find me when you're ready. I'll be waiting for you."
