Chapter 1: The Dream Again
Tem couldn't sleep that night. He lay awake in his bed, staring at the dark outline of his ceiling. Thinking through what his dad had said to him after there training earlier that day, 'I'm going to train you harder than ever tomorrow, and we are not going to stop until you get those stupid ideas of being a 'hero' out of your head.' Tem winced at the thought of his fathers words. Trying to sleep again, he shut his eyes. Only then did Tem hear a creaking floor and the backdoor opening. He sighed and started to get dressed to see who it was.
He looked out the backdoor and saw a dark figure running across that backyard to the stone fence. The figure just started to climb the fence as Tem reached the fence. "What are you doing Axonn?" Tem asked.
The figure fell down in surprise and looked up at Tem and said, "Keep your voice down bro, you want to wake up dad?"
"You still didn't answer my question," Tem said as he watched Axonn stand up.
"I'm running away, I can't stand living here any longer!" Axonn said.
"I know dad can be hard to live with…" Tem started to say before he was interrupted by Axonn.
"He treats me like crap, and don't even lie and say he treats you right. I heard him say to you that he is going to train you so hard you give up the hero thing," Axonn said in a whisper yell.
"Where are you going to go, your only 8 years old, Axonn."
"I'm going to Uncle Zack's in Wind City, he actually treated us like normal kids, even after dad started your training and started to ignore me," Axonn said as he turned back around and started to climb the wall again. He made it almost to the top when he slipped and fell again. Axonn sighed and then saw Tem's hand sticking out in front of him. "Huh?"
"Grab my hand, I'll give you a boost over the wall, than you pull me up and we both head over to Uncle's," Tem said with a smile as he held his hand out for Axonn to grab.
"But why," Axonn said as he grabbed Tem's hand. He obviously wasn't expecting this.
"Well ignoring the fact that dad wants to train the hero out of me, but you should realize that this could have just as easily have been me in your shoes," Tem said pulling his brother up, "And I would like to think you would do the same for me."
"I would," Axonn said quickly so he didn't seem like he had to think it over.
"Good, than lets get out of here and head to Uncle's before dad wakes up," Tem said, again smiling, as he turned towards the wall.
"Tem."
"Huh?" Tem turned around to look at where Axonn was, but he was gone. "Axonn?!"
"Tem!"
"Where are you Axonn?!" Tem yelled.
"Tem, wake up!"
Tem woke with a start in his bed. Waking up from the same dream he had been having for the past week. The one of him and Axonn when they were 10 and 8, yet now he was 16, looking at his 14 year old brother who had just woke him up.
