A/N: Set in the original time period of the movie/book, but with some changes.

Summary: Elio has a illness that only his family knows about. He's trying to live as long as he can and as much as possible before its too late. That all changes when one boy from America comes and stays with the family for six weeks and learns things about himself that he couldnt possibly imagine.

Elio was just now being able to get his pain under control. This had started to be his daily routine. He would wake up with a headache or migraine but it felt more like 20 dentists taking their drill and boring holes in the back, and Paul Bunyun taking a giant hammer and hammering away in the front. Even though it was a daily thing he couldn't help but holler and scream and cry in pain, because each day the pain seemed to get worse. Especially today he woke up sobbing just begging someone anyone to end the pain. As per usual his dad came running into his room, while his mom went to get his medication and cold towel. Mr.Perlman runs in to see Elio thrashing around in the bed holding his head screaming crying. He eventually pushed the crushing feeling of fear once again down, and ran over to the bed lifting Elio's upper body that was now hunched over shaking, his head in hands, back against the headrest. He was only there for a split second because his dad eventually slid in next him and leaned him on his lap. "Shh.. its okay... you're okay" Elio's dad soothed as much as he could. Elio was still screaming but he began his other ritual of shouting phrases no parent wants to here. " Oh God! Please make it end! Please! Let me die! Please!" Thankfully at the moment Elio's mom comes running in because, honestly Mr.Perlman wasn't sure if he could hold it together much longer. Mrs.Perlman placed all the medications and remedies that were necessary on the side table and went to work. She began setting up the the iv stand with a painkiller and a pain pump. Elio was beginning to calm down, but only because it was to painful to scream any longer. He was still hunched over on his dads lap, his right hand gripping the the left pant leg like it was a lifeline. Elio's mom got done setting up everything and told Mr. Perlman to give her Elio's left arm. But he also had a death grip on his bed sheet with his left hand. "Come on Elio, you gotta give me one of your arms! I know it hurts but if you can try and reach out a little..." it took a few minutes for Elio to respond. slowly and painstakingly he inched his right arm out toward his mother giving her permission to insert the needle into his hand. Mrs.Perlman inserted the needle quickly and swiftly. 'that was easy!' she thought happily, but that happiness soon turned to hatred for she hated having to do this to her only son every morning. She was brought back from her thoughts as she heard her son moan and fall into a blissful sleep within minutes. The last thing Elio heard before falling asleep was his parents talking and hearing Mr. Perlman saying he needed to pick up someone from the train station.
