Goodbye, Mommy
Written by CB
(I'm sorry if this makes you cry. I cried myself writing this, due to the recent death of a family member. It gets better soon, guys.)
Gumball stared into his mother's eyes. He couldn't speak, as he felt horrible for being a burden already. Tears stained his periwinkle fur, that was once vibrant and sky blue. His mother sobbed quietly, hands cupping her face. Gumball had been fine for a few weeks in the hospital after the accident. He had not smiled, or even laughed. His breathing had became labored and slow, as for his vision blurry and tearful. He had only spoken once in the full 30 days that he had been hospitalized.
"I love you, Mommy. It hurts."
His mother was the only one who could bear to see her baby like this; barely breathing, fragile and squeamish. She cried on a daily basis, Gumball's days getting shorter and shorter. The poor little guy had been in a car accident, walking home after school. He was so bad at first that the sight of him brought Nicole to tears. The driver was drunk, and was arrested soon enough. Gumball could barely stomach a spoonful of tea, his stomach weak and weary. Darwin hadn't seen him for weeks, being the most soft one of the family, they decided to tell Darwin that he was 'sleeping'. The rest of the family had forgotten poor little Zachary. Gumball grunted, and Nicole looked up at him. He opened his mouth as to speak, but only whimpers and noises came out. His windpipe was crushed, Nicole remembered. She planted a kiss on his forehead. His lips were visibly chapped and his eyes as pale as his skin. His heart rate began to go up a bit.
Flashback
"Go on Gummy!" Nicole cheered her son on,this being his first baseball game. Gumball ran around as fast as his little legs would carry him. In the background, the song Hey Soul Sister by Train was playing. Gumball smiled at his mom, as he scored a home run. "Mommy, mommy, I won!" Gumball said, smiling. "I know you did, sweetie! Good job!" Nicole said, hugging her son. "Let's go home, Gumball." Nicole yawned. "I love you, Mommy." Gumball said, hugging his mom.
End Of Flashback
Nicole stared at her baby boy. She felt a tear go down her cheek, as Gumball wheezed and became silent.
"M-m-mom," Gumball managed to wheeze out. "I love- I love you, Mom." Gumball said. "Bye-bye, mommy."
Gumball fell silent as the only sound in the room was the beep of the flatline. Nicole stared at him, bawling like a baby. "Good-goodbye, sweetie." she said, gripping his lifeless hand.
