As You Wish
Sam was in her lab doing an experiment but she didn't make much progress. She hadn't been able to focus the entire day and was careful to stay in her lab, figuring it was probably the first place he would go looking for her. She had been playing all different kinds of scenarios in her head, from a huge fight to wild sex on her lab desk, ever since she had turned in her resignation from the Air Force that morning. She had even heard that Siler and Walter were talking about bets concerning the colonel and her and all kinds of rumours were travelling through the base at a dazzling speed.
"Carter, what the hell were you thinking?!" Ah, he had found her. He was glaring at her, definitely not a happy camper. So she decided to play dumb.
"That I have to run some more tests on this device."
"Don't play dumb with me Carter. What the hell were you thinking turning in your resignation?!" He was standing across the desk, his big hands supporting his weight, his eyes staring at her, demanding an answer. Sam remained calm.
"I just thought it was time… Jack." She saw a little flash of surprise cross his face for the briefest of times at the sound of his first name but he quickly recovered.
"Whatever for?! You worked your ass off just to quit now?"
"No, I just realized I neglected my personal life too much. I wanted to do this for myself. Besides, I'll still go on missions with SG-1 but as a civilian scientist instead of an Air Force major." She walked around the desk and went to stand in front of him. He seemed unaffected, too absorbed in his tirade.
"Personal life? And you can't do that as a major?" He asked, still clearly frustrated with her.
"No." She took a step forward so she was just in front of him. She saw him eying her suspiciously.
"Why?" He asked warily.
"Because the guy I want is then off limits." She explained with a smile and she gave him a kiss on the cheek before turning around to pick up the device she had been working on and take it to her scanner. He grabbed her by her elbow and turned her back towards him. His anger was gone and replaced with something she hadn't seen often. She figured it was worry with maybe just a hint of surprise.
"I don't want you to give up your career in the Air Force because of me." His voice was gentle and Sam smiled.
"It was my decision. Besides you're worth it." She touched his cheek with the palm of her and felt him leaning into it. She smiled again before kissing him gently on his lips. He kissed her back but began to protest a little.
"But Sam …" She put her finger on his mouth to silence him.
"Shut up and kiss me." A smile appeared on his face.
"As you wish." And then it was Sam's turn to be surprised. He kissed her with such a force she began to feel week at the knees and if he hadn't wrapped his arms around her, she was sure she would have collapsed on the ground right there.
In another part of the SGC, more than half of the personnel that was unoccupied at that moment was watching the security tape of Dr. Carter's lab and cheered loudly. Walter sighed.
"It looks like Dr. Jackson won the betting pool."
The End
