Farewell Planters

She sighed in dismay, staring sadly at the orange and brown rectangular goodie sitting plainly before her, as if mocking her. Chocolate covered peanut buttery goodness. Her lips pouted. She could practically taste it already. Except, she knew she never would again. No peanuts. No peanut butter. No nuts, period. That meant no Reese's peanut butter cups. She'd sworn them off for the great good. She didn't want to set off his allergy and so she made sure that there was no chance of her being the cause. All peanut related foods were taken out of her diet and any containers holding such were removed from her apartment. She'd never eat her favorite chocolate delight again.

Oliver's arms wrapped around her, his lips pressing against her neck. The jug of milk she'd forgotten and sent him back for was set down on the counter in front of her as the clerk slid all their groceries through. A nice glass of milk would go nicely with peanut butter cookies; the one's she'd frowned at as she walked down the aisle, bypassing for some chocolate chip. She hadn't touched a peanut butter cookie or any peanut related food in nineteen months, not since their relationship began.

He paid with his debit card and then lifted nearly all of the grocery bags and held his elbow out slightly for her to wrap her arm around. She leaned her head against his shoulder as they walked down the sidewalk toward the car. She spotted a Thai restaurant across the street and her frown deepened. Never again. She unlocked the trunk of the car and he slid the grocery bags inside. He closed it with a thump and turned toward her, a smile gracing his warm features. "You were drooling over the Reese' again, weren't you?"

She scoffed. "Of course not!"

He lifted a brow.

She rolled her eyes, avoiding stomping her foot in frustration. "So I'm having a little bit of peanut withdrawal, so sue me."

He chuckled, wrapping his arm around her and bringing her closer to me. "I appreciate your strong will."

"You better," she muttered, pouting up at him.

Leaning down he kissed her. "I do," he said against her lips. "Very," he pecked her mouth. "Very." Another kiss. "Much."

She sighed contently, eyes closing and arms raising to wrap around her neck. "Yeah, well, you make it a little easier."

"Yeah?"

She grinned. "Just barely."

He kissed her forward, lips curved up in a grin.

They separated to climb in the car and she admitted, silently, that he was definitely worth swearing off peanuts. He tasted better than any Reese's peanut butter cups. They backed out of the parking lot and turned toward home. Farewell Planters, she thought to herself before taking Oliver's hand. She'd survive.
