It started as an innocent fling. They met for drinks or dinner at one or another of their places then turned into something more. He invited her back to his place one night after dinner and it carried on from there. She knew it was wrong but it was addictive. But when Sofia Curtis looked at her boyfriend she felt guiltier than ever. Guiltier than when she had blamed things on others as a child. Guiltier even when she thought she had shot Daniel Bell. She knew that Jim Brass trusted her, trusted her with everything, including his heart yet still she couldn't break it off with her lover. So life went on, and so did her two timing. That is until one summer day, when Jim saw the necklace. Sofia tried to pass it off as an old present, but he had already seen the inscription. 'To my love Sofia, 18th June 2007' That was when he got suspicious, and started paying more attention to her conversations. That was when he found out. And it wasn't until she found out that he knew that she realised exactly how much she was in love with him.
"How could you Sofia?" he had asked her. She couldn't answer that. She didn't know the answer herself.
"Can you ever forgive me?" she had asked with tears in her eyes. Jim had looked at her and simply replied "I don't know." Then he had left, walking out of her life forever. The next night when she had gone in to work she had been told that he had transferred to LA, to the homicide unit there. After that she had began to retreat from her friends, from her co-workers and from her family. He had left her, left her for good and he had taken her heart with him.
"I'm so sorry Jim," Sofia whispered 20 years later to no-one in particular. Her cheating had ruined her life and now she was paying for it. She died silently, even as the ambulances rushed towards her. It was ironic; her lover all those years ago had finally taken his revenge. He had taken her life, yet her spirit had died when Jim walked out that door. He returned for her funeral, and only then was he told about her final words.
"I love you Jim," she had said, only moments before she passed on. He bowed his head silently thinking. He had taken her heart yet her lover had taken her life. He turned around and looked to the end of the road where his family was waiting for him. He silently laid the bunch of flowers at her gravestone before walking off to his new life. His new life, without her. That was the last time that Jim Brass ever returned to Las Vegas. But although he loved his family, Sofia Curtis had taken his heart to the grave with her.
