This year for Halloween, my barn is dressing up as characters from Frozen. I'm being Ana. Today has been a long day with showing and all, but I am excited to dress up. I walk out into the barn isle in my costume, and everyone slowly starts to come out. I made all of the costumes , ao I am helping with the small details that put everything together. My best friend of 10 years walks over and asks me to fix his coat. I do, and he smirks at me and walks away. I laugh and follow him over to our trainer. She tells me to get on the horse dressed as Sven. She gives me a leg up, af I settle myself because I am bareback. She then tells Jake to hop up behind me. He jumps up from the ground, and the horse spooks. He quickly grabs my waist as I struggle to get the horse under control. As soon as I am in control, he lays his head on my shoulder, breathing hard. I turn my head to look at him.
"Couldn'ta gotten a leg up?" I mutter.
He just shrugs and smirks. I laugh as I turn the horse to walk to the arena. All of a sudden, we both realize how tightly he is holding me. I feel his skin heat up as he loosens his grip.
We go into the arena with our team, and I can feel that the horse is nervous. He is sweating a lot. We win the costume contest, so we head back to the barn. Our trainer tells us to walk out the horse, so we turn away from the barn and walk down a trail to a field. Once we get there, I feel him relax behind me. I slide back so that his legs are right against mine, and I lean back against his chest. He tightens his grip on my waist, and he lays his head on my shoulder. All of this happens in a matter of seconds. We both realize at the same time, and he tenses behind me. I turn around and meet his eyes.
"What's happening between us?" I whisper gently.
He smiles and says, " I don't know about you, but I definitely have feelings that are greater than friendship for you." His face turns red, and when I don't respond, he says, "Damn. Shouldn'ta said anything." I'm so shocked that I don't respond. "Please say something. Anything. Just say something." He looks like he is about to cry.
I finally recover, and I stop the horse. I turn around and look at him, but he won't meet my eyes. I gently touch his face, and he finally looks at me.
Before I can think, I lean forward and catch him on the lips. Softly and sweetly at first, but he soon runs his tongue along my bottom lips and deepens the kiss to a french.
I pull away, breathless.
"Does that tell you how I feel?"
"I don't know, you better do it again." He smirks.
I slap him on the shoulder, and he laughs and catches my lips again. I break away before it deepens and lean back against his chest. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me closer to him. We sit like that for a while, me in his arms, and I tell the horse to walk.
After a while, he asks the question that we are both wondering the answer to.
"So….What happens now? What are we?"
I turn around and ask timidly, "What do you want to be?"
"I just don't want to lose you. I understand if you don't want to be my girlfriend, so let's just be friends."
At that moment, I decide to take a risk.
"And if I DO want to be your girlfriend?"
He looks at me and swears. Loudly. I look at him, and he meets my odd look with a smile.
"That's not what I mean. I just mean that your father is going to skin me alive."
I burst out laughing, and he joins in. I turn back around and lean against him, and he rests his head on my shoulder.
"Be my girlfriend?" he mutters in my ear.
I turn around and meet his eyes.
"Love to."
