A/N: Hello everyone...This is my first attempt at posting something here. I've read stories by different people here and they are all so amazing...I couldn't wait to try it out myself. I would love to be a part of this community.

THE LOCKET
Damon sighed.
It was time to pay the clothing store a visit. He needed a suit for the gala and he had no intention of going. Why did he get stuck with lookout duty every time ? But he had and he had to suck it up.
Out the door and into his car he went. After all, how long does one keep John Varvatos waiting, huh ? The store loomed ahead of him. He missed Elena.
'This was more her thing' he thought, fingering the locket around his neck.
Elena's locket. He sighed again as he put the car to park.
"Hello, sir. How may I help you ?" The blond receptionist inquired of him.
"I'd like a black-tie suit. Austin, please." He smiled charmingly.
"Sure. This way, sir"
She led him through a door into the second section where the collection was displayed.
"Thank you, Cera" He said, glancing at her nametag.
The girl smiled and showed him different styles. He tried on a variety of them, but found nothing he actually wanted. So he simply thanked the girl and started back home.
'This was a bad idea.' He thought, slamming his hand on the wheel. Too much space. Too many memories. And that girl. Cera. Why did she have to have Elena's eyes ?
He was gonna have to stop this, eventually. But it wasn't like he could turn the memories off. He'd just have to endure it. His hand went to his throat automatically. But his heart skipped several beats when he touched bare skin.
Where was the locket ? Tires screeched as he pulled to an abrupt stop. He searched the entire car but didn't find the damn piece of jewellery. Panic surged but he pushed it down. He'd check at the store tomorrow. Surely Cera or someone should've seen it. He was slightly mollified.
The next day found Damon bright and early at the store. The receptionist smiled.
"Welcome back, sir. Looking for the locket you dropped ?" She smiled as she held it up.
Damon's relief was palpable. He reached out and stroked it fondly.
"This was my wife's. She used to wear it all the time. I can't thank you nearly enough." He said. "Please accept this." He held out some $100 dollar bills but Cera denied it.
When Damon insisted, she called up the manager and he said that the money wasn't necessary. So to compensate for the kindness and honesty of the store,
he bought a bunch of clothes from them.
And that's the story of why Damon Salvatore loves John Varvatos.
