Wedding rings

Charles was sitting in his pantry the small clock on his wall had struck midnight. He was staring at his left hand his face broke into a warm smile at the thought of 3 days ago a beautiful housekeeper slipped her fathers gold ring on his ring finger and promised to honour him and love him forever.

A soft knock adorned his door and I slowly squeaked open, "I wondered where you'd got to" Elsie said in a whisper, her eyes were soft and she closed the door quietly behind her. Charles motioned for her to go closer to him "I'm sorry I just had a moment thinking"; Elsie walked over to him and took his hand with her left "well then penny for those thoughts?", "I was just looking at my wedding ring and how perfect it fits"

Elsie was drawn to his hand and brushed her thumb over it "it's definitely a perfect fit, canny how mine fits perfectly too" Elsie smiled at him, Charles automatically drew her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her waist. He gazed into her eyes and lifted her left hand to his lips and kissed her ring "I have never adored you as much as I do and will ever do as I will from this moment on for ever Elsie, you are the love of my life and this ring on your finger and the one on mine is a reminder when I or you might happen to not be near each other and it to me is a symbol of you" Elsie had unshed tears in her eyes, no words needed to be said by her as he knew how much love she had for him but she managed to whisper out "I love you so much and I will love you till my last breath" Charles leaned back in his chair and pulled her close to him, Elsie wrapped her arms gently wrapped around his neck "I think this wedding ring is telling me something" Charles raised an eyebrow "oh? What is it saying?" At that Elsie leaned closer and pressed her lips to his and they kissed for a long while smiling and laughing against each other's lips with silent promises of so much in a few months as they contemplate their retirement together.

Who knows their could be more...
