It all started with a call.

Something that would change Tony Stark's life forever. A call informing him of possible adoption.

But it wasn't adoption. It was a little girl that was biologically his. At first, he was skeptical. He seriously doubted that this girl was alone. She obviously had a mom that was using her as bait. It happened all the time. Someone swore that their kid was his and demanded child support. But DNA tests always came back negative. This case seemed all too familiar.

But he was wrong.

He was confused when he was asked to meet at the children's hospital. Maybe this girl really was alone.

"Mr. Stark. I thought you had changed your mind." The lady sitting at the front desk said as he approached the front desk. She wore a black pencil skirt and printed top.

"I did." Tony said. "That's why I'm here. Are you Ms. Marianne?"

She smiled. "Yes I am."

"Ok good. So, where is she?" Tony asked.

Marianne stood up from her desk. "Follow me."

Tony followed her into a room. It was full of kids, some with casts and their arms or bandges on their face. All of them turned and stared as he walked in. He didn't give them a second thought but followed Marianne into a quieter room with several hospital beds.

"She's right over there. The bed with the green ribbon." Marianne whispered.

"She's sleeping? Maybe I should come back another time." Tony started to leave the room.

Marianne glared at him. "You've come this far, no turning back now."

Tony sighed before strolling in. In the bed was a little girl with curly brown hair. Tony didn't doubt that she had brown eyes, like his. She lay sleeping peacefully in the bed.

Marianne walked up behind him and carefully picked her up. She stirred a bit before settling into a comfortable spot on Marianne's shoulder.

"Would you like to hold her?" she asked.

"Um...can I?" Tony had never held a child before.

"She's your daughter. Here."

"Uh actually I don't...I don't like to be handed things." he said quickly.

"I'm sure she won't bite." Marianne said jokingly.

Tony braced himself as the little girl was passed into his arms. Her body was surprisingly light. She seemed so delicate as if the slightest move would hurt her. He felt himself relax as she sighed after finding a cozy spot on his chest and continued to sleep.

"What's her name?" he asked.

"Jennifer. But everyone calls her Jenny."

"Jenny." Tony repeated as he put his face close to her hair, taking in her smell. "My little Jenny."

Wait, what was be doing? He couldn't let himself get too attached. He couldn't raise a kid. Why was he even here? He started to put Jenny back in her bed. Someone else needed to raise her. Certainly not him.

She winced in pain upon touching the bed. Tony immediately picked her back up.

"It's ok. It's ok." he said softly. He felt Jenny relax against his chest. "Is she hurt?"

Marianne nodded. "She was in a minor car accident on her way here. It's nothing serious, she just sprained her arm."

Tony was torn, he couldn't just leave her here, especially since she was injured and alone. But at the same time he was afraid to take her home. His mansion was no place for a kid. He would no doubt have to child-proof virtually every room. And not to mention the media. They would be all over this. And most of all, Pepper. She was never a 'kid' person and would be,totally against the idea. She would do anything to get rid of the child.

It was a risk. But he decided to take it.

"I'll take her." Tony said, gently rubbing Jenny's back.

Marianne smiled. "I'll go gather her things." she quietly left the room.

"There's no need." he called after her. "I've got plenty for her already. I'm gonna spoil her rotten." he buried he face in Jenny's hair.

He followed Marianne out of the room. The rest of the kids yelled out protests and whined when they saw Jenny in his arms.

"Shh." He said as she began to stir.

Marianne was waiting at the front desk. "I just need you to sign these and you two can go." she laid a stack of papers of the desk and went to work on her computer.

Tony positioned Jenny so she laying on his shoulder and began filling out the papers. Mainly all he had to do was sign his name. But the paper at the bottom of the stack particularly caught his attention. It was Jenny's birth certificate. But it was blank.

"Um...I have a question."

Marianne looked up from her computer. "What is it?"

"Is this her original birth certificate?"

"No. We had to make a new one."

"And what about the original?"

Marianne shrugged. "When she was brought here, there was nothing on her. Not even a name. We managed to track down her mother who was able to give us the information we needed. That's how we knew her name and that you were the father. She was really hoping that you would raise Jenny."

"How long has she been here?"

"A few hours. The authorities had no choice but to bring her here. You see, her mom has, or should I say, had cancer. She died a few days ago. The child services were transporting her here when the accident occurred. Good thing they were only a few hours from the hospital."

Tony looked down at the sleeping girl in his arms. She was now his responsibility. It was her mother's dying wish that he raise her. He had no choice now.

He finished sighing the papers and left the hospital. He carefully placed Jenny in the backseat. She stirred and moaned after leaving her comfy spot.

Tony buckled her in and shut the door before climbing into the passenger seat.

He sat in the parking lot for a minute, just thinking. He had a daughter. He had a little girl that was completely dependent on him. He was a dad.

Only thing was he had no idea what he was doing.

Jenny didn't wake the entire ride home. Or when Tony carefully pulled her out of the car.

He made his way up the stairs and into the living room where Pepper was busy on her computer, as usual.

She watched suspiciously as he carried a tiny sleeping figure in his arms through the living room.

"Tony..."

"I'll explain later." he said quickly before making his way upstairs. He didn't have a room ready for Jenny so he opened the door to his bedroom.

"J.A.R.V.I.S, dim the lights." he said softly.

The A.I didn't reply but darked the room at Tony's request. He walked over to his king sized bed and carefully laid Jenny down. He quickly covered her with a blanket so she wouldn't wake.

The huge bed seemed to swallow her tiny form. He recalled what Marianne told him about Jenny's mom. She was no doubt wondering where her mommy was. He couldn't replace her but would try his best. Hopefully Pepper wouldn't mind helping out even though she didn't like kids. At the moment, Jenny had no clue who he was. He hoped she wouldn't panic when she woke. He leaned down and gently kissed her cheek.

"I love you Jenny. You don't know me right now, but I'm your daddy. And I'm going to take care of you. I promise."
