It was a Sunday like any other. Normally on Sunday's I end up having to go along with whatever project Haruhi was up to, but since she was on a vacation with her dad I had the day off from her shenanigans and the supernatural mess that follows her everywhere.

I decided to go to school, since usually the library is still open on weekends and I had some homework to do. Doing homework has been increasingly difficult ever since I joined the SOS brigade.

At the library I ran into Tsuruya, which was always pleasant. It's not that I didn't like her, but her hyperactive attitude tends to be exhausting.

"Hi Tsuruya"

"Hi Kyon" she said, as if it was a common occurrence to see me in a library.

"How are you?"

"Fine" she said as she sat there and flipped trough a book.

This was an odd sight to behold. She was so calm, almost cute the way she just sat there.

"How come you're so calm."

"It's a library isn't it?"

She almost reminded me of Nagato there for a second.

"What book are you reading?"

"To Kill A Mockinbird"

I went ahead and did my homework, it wasn't that hard to finish, it usually never is if I have time to do it.
After that I looked around to see if Tsuruya was still there.
She was, still reading her book. I walked up to her.

"So, listen do you want to go for lunch or something?" I asked.

I had nothing better to do and I would enjoy to have company while I eat, hence the request.

She looked surprised, but also a bit concerned?

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, Haruhi is on vacation, so the SOS brigade is also on hiatus until she comes back. So I have nothing really to do. I guess my life was a bit dull before meeting Haruhi"

"I suppose" she said and closed her book.

We went to the café next to the school. I ordered a simple sandwich, she on the other hand ordered a chicken pasta.

"So...what really made you ask me out?" She all the sudden asked.

"I didn't ask you out"

"Come on...you so did?"

"Alright, if you really want the truth, it's because I find you kind of cute when you're calm" I said as I looked at the wall to seem nonchalant.

"Really...I thought guys were more for the hyperactive type."

"Well not me..."

"Either way, I still don't seem like your type Kyon"

"What do you mean?"

"Aren't you more for weird girls? I always assumed you were dating Haruhi."

"Haruhi and I aren't dating. I do admit that she's a really attractive girl, but keeping up with her is exhausting."

"Is that so?" she said and stirred her drink with her straw.

"Yeah"

"Why do you think it'd be any different with me, you've seen the way I am."

"I don't know."

I didn't know why I suddenly had an interest in Tsuruya. Before now I've only seen her as Asahina's quirky friend. Perhaps it's because I really long to date a normal girl. A girl that isn't god, an alien or a time traveler. Perhaps a part of me wants to hang onto the reality of things. Whatever the reason I just knew that I liked her, it's not really something that came over time and was built up. It's more of an instant crush that developed.
I decided to be a bit more bold and decided to just kiss her. I leaned forward for a kiss, touching her soft ruby lips with my own. It was exiting. The term butterflies in my stomach would barely scratch the surface of the way I felt at that moment.

"What was that for?" she asked after we stopped.

"For being you"
