Master of Kadabra

Master of Kadabra

Episode 4 – A New Evil

Master of Kadabra is split up into episodes. Each episode contains approximately 6 chapters. One chapter is published every week... well, usually.

Chapter 2

[Opening Notes] This chapter has been long overdue… I can tell you one of the primary reasons for the delay – the ending of Frosterfree's Caterpie Forest. He decided no longer to write the continuation of his story. I, for one, am far from doing that, so enjoy this new chapter. [End opening notes]

That night I had a dream, in which I was talking to Sarah. I didn't see her or hear her, I just… sensed… her. I couldn't really remember how the conversation went, but I remembered making a crack about Sabrina's boots.

The weird part of it all was that she had the exact same dream. We discussed it that morning, on the way to the makeshift cafeteria.

"It's almost like we were conversing telepathically, but through a dream. I never learned anything about this in my training." Sarah floated over a rock as we walked towards the cappuccino maker.

"Ah, coffee, the lifeblood of all trainers. Especially us psychics." I released Kadabra so he could get some pancakes. He tapped me with his spoon before leaving, eye signaling towards Sarah.

"I'll drink to that." She sat down on the chair I offered her with some simple telekinesis. "I remember my grandfather telling all kinds of crazy stories before he had his morning coffee each day. Without it, he would feel like he was still captaining the SS Anne, telling us all kinds of sailor stories about amazing Pokémon that could easily defeat psychic ones. Yeah right…"

We spent the day handling small groups of Mankey. Sarah's Mr. Mime was about to pounce on one and trap it inside a barrier, but some noise from the bushes distracted us. Actually, it mainly distracted Mr. Mime, who nervously whispered a "Mr. Mime" that was loud enough to scare off the Mankey.

When I went over to see what it was, all I say was an Eevee. It was a big one, probably ready to evolve. That was the main reason I didn't want to fight it right now – a Jolteon could easily kick some major Kadabra butt with its bug attacks.

The days were passing along very quickly. There were only 4 weeks left for the expedition, and I wanted to get as close as possible to Sarah. I've got to admit, I fell for her.

Sure, I've had my crushes now and then, but it was nothing more than just physical attraction. With Sarah, it's something more… Is it because she is psychic? I don't know. It has been several months now since I got my powers, and I'm pretty much used to using them, but I guess they also come with additional… things.

It was as if my emotional attachment with her, now obviously growing into a complete relationship, allows me to sense her mind. Her thoughts, her cravings, her memories… I hope mine aren't disruptive to her, as having a flashback from her past often cost me a duel. Nevertheless – it is quite marvelous to share such a bond with someone like her.

That night, I was having trouble sleeping. The crickets seemed to be chirping louder, and the distant Growlithe howls seemed sadder and sadder. I fell asleep, eventually, but nightmares haunted my rest. While at the time, I thought one of the Drowzee might have been walking around, hungry for dreams, but the following morning I found myself sorely mistaken.

Closing notes

Sorely mistaken, eh? What does this mean? What could have possibly been haunting his dreams? Could he perhaps have foreseen the tragedy that had come upon them? Find out, in the next Master of Kadabra (which I will probably post today :)
