A/N: Something small that came to mind while at my cousin's birthday party and looking up at the stars. Possible oneshot unless you like or I get enough reviews. I might do more (using this same format but slightly different plot lines and what not) but with different characters. Just let me know. For now though, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I really hate doing these... I do not own The Hunger Games... blah blah blah... Everything belongs to Suzanne Collins... blah blah blah... WHOO! I'm done. It's a miracle. ;-)
Stars
"They really are beautiful tonight. The stars," he whispered, looking up towards the sky.
"They're always beautiful, Peeta. They're always the same," the girl countered.
"Yes... but no. They're unique and special. Different every night... Just like you," he smiled.
And in the dark of the night, the boy could still make out the faint blush of the girl, and the redness creeping into her cheeks.
It had been years since the end of the rebellion. The couple was scarred, no less... but happy all the same. They had a little one on the way and could not have been happier.
It had taken time, yes, for the girl to fully recover from her sister's death. The boy from the hijacking. But together, they made it through. Always together.
Together through the 74th annual Hunger Games. Together through the Victory Tour. Together through the Quarter Quell. Together through the war. Together through it all.
The boy had finally been able to persuade his companion to bring a young one into the world. When they had found out it was truly happening, the girl was frightened. The boy, well, let's just say the least. He was the happiest man in all of Panem.
And now, we have caught up to the present. The boy had emerged out to the porch after his dinner. The girl had slowly followed.
The blue eyes of the boy had followed the girl's movements, until finally his gaze had rested on the sky. 'The stars.' It was the first thing that had come to the boy's mind.
He had chuckled softly before telling the girl how beautiful they were, and how they reminded him of her.
The girl had blushed after his words. The boy winked afterwards, his gaze returning back to the sky.
For several moments, the couple admired the sky and its stars until finally the girl understood. She finally got the comparison and shook her head in humiliation of not getting it earlier. She smiled.
And keeping her gaze to the sky, she finally broke.
"You know what, Peeta? They really are beautiful tonight. The stars."
