It'd only been 3 days since the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, it was also was the day the Death family honored the dead.
The 2 demon pistols were placing flowers in front of graves of the dead victims of the shooting.
"26 dead, 20 of them children, how could I let this happen?" Kid thought.
Kid felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Father?" Kid asked.
"Is anything bothering you?" Shinigami-sama asked.
Kid paused and took a look at the young Charlotte Bacon's grave.
"Why did we let this happen? We are meant to control life and death, but we can't predict a simple massacre." Kid asked.
Shinigami-sama paused and turned around to Rachel D'avino's grave.
We Shinigami's are allowed to control if a human dies of their bad acts, or if it's just their time, we do NOT control the acts of humans." Shingami-sama stated.
"And yet I still wish I could've done something…" Kid exclaimed.
"Don't we all?" Shinigami-sama asked patting kid's shoulder again.
Kid felt a tap on his other shoulder.
"Liz?" Kid asked turning around.
"Patty is just about to finish planting for Olivia Engel and then we're done." The Eldest pistol stated.
Kid nodded, "Okay."
For a moment everyone and everything was silent and then Liz grabbed Kid's face.
"Look Kid, all we can do now is be happy for the ones who survived." Liz said.
Kid looked down to his shoe, where he smashed a black rose of Josephine Gay's.
Kid slipped away from Liz's grasp and picked up the dead flower.
"Death is a curse." Kid said.
"That may be true, but it may be gift as well." Shinigami-sama claimed.
Kid let go of the flower as it turned to dust.
-That night-
Kid feel asleep and dreamed of a scene of the shootings
It was 10:00 and the police had emptied the school full of children. Not many were wounded, but many were lined up in rows of survivors. Many parents hugged their children.
Kid smiled.
"Death is a gift." Kid said.
