Tension

Roxas drummed his fingers impatiently against the tiles of the counter as he waited for the popcorn to finish popping.

"We only have movie night once a month and you're wasting it on watching corn explode?" Axel asked incredulously as he entered the room, stripping off his Organization coat to drape it over one of the kitchen chairs.

"It's not movie night without popcorn." The blonde retorted immediately. "How was your mission?"

"It didn't suck, but it was way too long. That Emerald Whatever-thing in Wonderland was a pain to eliminate."

"I know what you mean… That's easily my least favorite Heartless."

"Oh? Are Darksides growing on you?"

"Comparatively, yes." Roxas' face lit up as the microwave dinged. "Popcorn's ready! Let's do this!"

A few hours later, the two were cuddled close on the couch as the second Lord of the Rings movie began to play. Roxas' head was resting on Axels' chest. The redhead had his arm draped loosely over the blonde's shoulder and waist, absent-mindedly running his fingers up and down the blonde's waist as Roxas cuddled closer, leaning into his touch.

After a moment's hesitation, Axel tilted his head down and brushed a stray hair out of Roxas' face. Blue eyes widening slightly, Roxas glanced upwards, almost melting as he looked into the piercing green eyes studying him. The blonde felt his heart hammering in his chest at the intensity of the gaze. Finally remembering to breath, Roxas moved his head back down to rest on the other's chest again.

The two chatted amiably for the remainder of the film, making various comments on the plot or characters. Once the credits began to roll, however, Axel changed the subject.

"So… was it just me, or was there some serious tension a little while ago?"

"Tension? Like… in a bad way?"

"Um… no. Not even a little bit. In a kinda good way."

"Oh… well, yeah. I mean, I guess I noticed that. A little." Roxas' face reddened faintly as he glanced upwards out of the corner of his eyes. He noticed Axel's face was slightly red as well, causing him to frown in confusion. Rather than comment on it, he chose to direct his attention back to the movie on the screen.

Eventually, however, something caused the two to look at each other again and, not able to resist the tension any longer, their lips met tentatively. They pulled apart slowly, eyes widened in disbelief.

"Okay, we need to talk about this." Roxas stated, moving so he could look Axel in the eye. "What was that?"

"Well, I'm not the smartest of Nobodies, but if I had to take a guess, I'd say that was a kiss…"

"I know that." Roxas rolled his eyes. "Why did it happen?"

"I'm attracted to you… You're attracted to me… Apparently, that's what happens." Axel shrugged. "Not sure how that works for Nobodies, but there you have it."

"So… now what?"

"Well, we can do it again." Axel suggested with a smirk.

"Works for me."

Needless to say, the movie remained forgotten as the two explored their feelings for each other. Whether or not the feelings were 'real' did not matter to them. All that mattered was each other.
