Coffee Break

This is a work of fanfiction based on the tv shows CSI. The main characters are Gil Grissom and David Hodges. This is pre-slash although I'd love to write these two as a slash pairing one day. They have some really great chemistry on the show. I don't own the characters and universe for these shows, nor do I make money off of them. I only things I own are my imagination and the wacky and wonderful world therein.

Coffee Break

David Hodges knows Grissom hasn't been doing well since Sara left. He's good at hiding it, but everyone knows he hasn't been coping. It's less not dealing with it well and more a total lack of dealing with it at all. So Hodges also knows he should be carefully and tactful when handling the subject and Grissom in general. It's just that carefulness and tact aren't some of his strong suits where people are concerned, or ever. Still someone has to do something about the situation. It's just nobody seems to be willing to face up to Grissom or physically drag him out of the lab, if that's what it take. Hodges, very much, hopes that's not what it takes, for several reason, not least of which being Grissom's bigger then he is and he'd be willing to bet quite a bit stronger. Still it seems to be a now or never sort of situation and although four months ago Hodge's would have stuck to the never bit, he's starting to feel more confident about the now part of the statement. So on his way off shift he sticks his head into Grissom's office.

"Hey Grissom, you want to go out for coffee or something? You spend too much time on your own these days, it's not healthy, you know."

Inside he cringes at his own bluntness and possible stupidity, and for a moment he thinks Grissom's going to yell at him, or blow him off, or even possibly laugh. Then instead Grissom sighs and takes off his glasses.

"Actually coffee would be nice, David."

And Hodge's tries very hard to look cool and collected. Although he now, suddenly, feels as if someone has just lit him on fire from the inside out. Maybe he succeeds at hiding it, or at least Grissom doesn't comment.
