Life Left To Lose: Introduction
The taste in her mouth was that of old pennies and salt. She coughed as the taste turned into a thick disgusting liquid that flowed from her swollen lips. She winced as a drop of sweat fell into a gash above her left eye; the burning sensation adding to the many aches and pains that plagued her face. Her eyes, which were discolored and puffy, were blurry as she tried to peer out from the light she was under and into the darkness that surrounded her. A crimson trickle ran from her temple down to her bruised cheek and she shook her head lightly to rid herself of the irritation. The sudden movement made her dizzy and her eyes began to haze as the room slowly turned in her mind. As her head lowered to rest her chin on her chest she barely recognized the sound of a door opening and footsteps approaching her. She struggled to raise her head as she heard a familiar click of metal come from above her. Her bloodshot eyes glistened as she leveled her eyes with the origin of the sound. A barely audible sigh escaped her lips as she once again hung her head down. As she took one last deep breath, a blood stained tear ran down her dirty cheek and her body slumped as a single shot rang out and echoed into her now lifeless ears.
