If a clock could count down to the moment you met your soul mate, what would you do?
Casey McDonald was on a tight schedule. She woke up at 6:30 every morning, started a pot of coffee, took her morning shower, brushed her teeth and her hair (in that order), fixed herself a travel mug of coffee with exactly 4 creams and 2 sweeteners, and got in the car so she could be on time for work (which is where she had to be by 7:30). Yeah, she was on a tight schedule indeed.
The day started out as any normal say would, she woke up on time and was out the door at the same time as every day, too. Yes, today started out normal, but it would be far from it. It all started with a phone call from her mom.
"Hey mom! You're up early"
"Well, yes honey! I have exciting news!" Casey could practically hear her mom bouncing from the other side if the phone.
"What is it? Are you going into labor?"
"No, no! Not that! Edwin only has one week left on his timer! He's so nervous!"
Knowing her mom and the pregnancy hormones, she could tell her mom was pacing in a flurry of happiness! She was happy for Ed that his timer was still counting down. She could remember the first time hers had started ticking. It was right after her mom had gotten married to George. She had just moved her stuff into the house and was having an argument with Derek when the blue transparent bar on her arm flashed and began ticking. She ran to her mom to see what was wrong and Nora had burst out into tears. It took a hesitant George and a hysterical Nora to inform her of what was happening. When Nora finally calmed now, she went back to normal. She paid no attention to Derek when news had spread that his timer started exactly at the same time hers did. Throughout high school she dated guys, but she felt especially weird knowing that her soul mate was wondering the world and she was going on spontaneous dates with practical strangers. One of the guys she dated, Truman, actually got offended that her timer didn't stop ticking when they went on their first date! As if she could control it! As she got to know him, she found him to be somewhat of a creep and she was really glad that her timer had not stopped. Now with Sam, he was a different story. She could be her normal "klutzilla" self around him and he still stuck around. Regardless of being Derek's friend (the annoying STEP brother that she NEVER wanted), he still was a good guy. She was kind of sad that her timer continued on, but instantly cheered up with the thoughts that her soul mate would be better than Sam.
"Casey honey, are you there?"
Snapping out of her daydream with a shake of her head, she looked at the clock.
"HOLY SH-SMOKE! Mom, I'm going to have to call you back, I'm late for work!"
"Well, okay honey! Be careful and don't rush! You will get there when you get there!"
"okay, I love you mom! And tell Ed not to be worried, she's his soul mate, he's already perfect for her." After hearing her mom reciprocate the love, she hung up and grabbed her keys from the table.
She was not expecting the company at her door.
"hey princess, you miss me yet?"
