"Dean it's midnight."
"And?" Dean looked at Castiel with such love that Cass couldn't help but smile and follow the other outside.
It was mid summer and neither had to work in the morning. The sky was bright with moonlight and stars. Not a cloud in sight. The lights where out from the present power shortage. And their neighbors were miles away.
Dean set up his CD player with a catching waltz remake from years ago. He turned it up loud enough that they could hear it over the peppers and the crickets but soft enough that it wasn't a focus.
Dean held out his hand for Cass to take and they circled around together. The music flowing around them as the moon light filled the area.
"This is silly." Cass said as they spun.
"You think so? I think it's peaceful." Dean hummed quietly his eyelids half closed as he moved to the music. Cass a victim of Dean's strength was forced to follow the other.
Cass sighed but followed anyway. He looked into Dean's eyes and smiled, feeling that peacefulness that Dean was talking about fill him. The music was just to keep beat but they were dancing with the moonlight as their guide.
Following its beams with surefootedness. Avoiding the star light. Making sure the peppers were not disturbed. They danced a peaceful dance. One that had not been seen in a long time.
And Castiel rested his head on Dean's shoulder. Just absorbing the sounds. The feeling. The peace. The music. The light.
The fallen angel was….just their. Him and his righteous man in a world full of horror and chaos that they were to go back to in the morning.
But right now? Right in this moment? They were just that, just their, just being. And that felt right to Castiel. It felt nice. It felt simple.
"I wish we could do this more." Dean hummed his eyes no longer open as they swayed in circles. Following the moon beam shaped sphere around them.
"I wish we could go back." Cass replied just as zoned out as his partner.
"Well you have no wings, and the world has gone to shit." Dean said chuckling.
Cass only hummed. "I am fine with that."
And they spun. Around and around. Humming to the tone that flowed around them. Peace enveloped the Rebel leader and his Fallen Angel.
"Dean?" Sam looked around the house. He had heard footsteps walking him up. He followed the sound of soft music playing and saw Cass and Dean doing a crappy imitation of the waltz.
Smiling he shut the screen door and went back to bed. In the morning the three will not speak of it. They will be forced to go guns blazing into the Devil's hold and they all knew tonight was their last night.
Sam was going to let Dean and Cass have this. He was going to go back to sleep. He was going to pray and hope some god out their still had their ears on and was willing to help them.
But he knew that wasn't going to happen. So he hummed to the music playing outside his window letting Dean and Cass dance in the moonlight for the last time.
Letting the two just be and not worry about them till the morning.
Their shadows danced across his far wall and he watched as he dozed to sleep dreaming of nothing but classical music in a past that he wished he could go back to and allow Dean and Cass to live and have little romantic moments like this all the time.
But that was a dream. They were going to die tomorrow. Then they would be in heaven together forever.
And that was alright by Sam.
