Author's Note: I own souvenirs I bought from Times Square, but I don't own #Blindspot (although if I did 3.10 never would have happened). Anyways, it's still January, therefore, maybe people will still enjoy this little story.

"Kurt, seriously? It's barely 4. What's the rush?" Jane stepped out of the bedroom still pulling on her shoes.

"Jane, please. Just hurry up," Kurt pleaded, already waiting by the door.

Jane rolled her eyes as she grabbed her jacket and hat. She didn't understand why Kurt was so insistent about tonight. He'd mentioned it casually the other day – did she want to do anything special for New Year's Eve?

She hadn't given much thought to it, to be honest. She was looking forward to spending it with Kurt no matter what, and the kiss at midnight would certainly be a welcome way to start the New Year. But beyond that, she hadn't given it that much thought.

Then, just yesterday, he'd said he'd wanted to go to Times Square.

Jane stared at him for a full minute before she responded "Really?"

They'd been to Times Square a few times over the years, sometimes on cases, sometimes just while walking around the city. But it had never really been a place they'd intentionally sought out to go. Especially not on New Year's Eve. Not with a million other people.

But Kurt had wanted it, and Jane couldn't find a reason not to. Besides she figured it was something every New Yorker should do at least once, and really, as long as she was spending the night with Kurt, she couldn't complain.

Kurt had started to get antsy around 10am, but Jane had dragged her heels getting ready, not understanding the point of getting there hours and hours before midnight anyway. Kurt kept insisting that was part of the experience, but it was well below freezing, and even he had to concede to staying inside for just a little longer.

The subway was more crowded than Jane had ever seen it before, complete with confused tourists and plenty of police controlling the crowds. As they got closer, even Jane started to get caught up in the excitement. Maybe this would be special – there was a reason the world tuned in to see the ball drop in Times Square.

A few stops from Times Square, they (and a few hundred other spectators) departed the subway. Jane started following the crowds, but in an instant, Kurt had grabbed her hand and was walking in the opposite direction.

"I thought we were going to watch the ball drop."

"We are," he said mysteriously, a smile crossing his face. He pulled her over towards the 45th street exit, giving a polite nod to the NYPD officers helping direct the crowds.

When they finally got street side, Jane was amazed at how crowded it already was. There were people everywhere. She knew to expect it of course, but she'd never seen Times Square this crowded before. And it was still seven hours before midnight.

They walked along the street, bustling with other revelers trying to find the best viewing area.

"Okay," Kurt pulled her to a stop beside him. His smile was wide as he turned to Jane, waiting for her to respond.

Jane glanced around curiously. The majority of the crowd was still block away, and although there were a few people lingering near them, the police were starting to direct people, hoping to make space for later spectators. Jane couldn't figure out why Kurt had chosen this spot - that was when she noticed where they were.

"Here?" Her smile lit up her face.

"Here." Kurt smiled back, grateful she recognized the significance. "I can't think of a better place to start our new year than right here. Right where it began."

Jane gave a small laugh. "You know you weren't there that night."

"Okay, would you rather watch it from the FBI?" Kurt laughed. "I know I wasn't actually here. Both our lives changed that night. And this spot, right here, is where it started."

Jane leaned closer as Kurt wrapped her arms around her. "And this is where we'll start our new year, and our new life. Together."
