Sometimes when he, Olette and Pence would sit on the clock tower, he felt as if someone were missing. Hayner thought, vaguely, that this person was someone he loved deeply. But who could it be?
Hayner sometimes thought that the others felt it too. The other day, Olette had bought four ice creams. She looked baffled when he had asked who the extra one was for, and she just laughed and said, "I guess I was hungrier than usual and bought it without thinking!"
Pence sometimes would stare at the photo they took in front of the old mansion. Hayner watched him. One day, Pence caught him staring, and the brunette smiled goofily. "I keep looking at this because I'm trying to figure out why my arm is out like that. I keep thinking that maybe someone else was in this picture." There was a moment of silence before Pence chuckled good naturedly and said, "Impossible, right?"
Hayner didn't think it was so impossible. Seifer and him would spar sometimes, and after they fought, Seifer would lean on his bat and say, "Y'know, I thought one of your group was more of a challenge than the other people around here. I thought it was you, 'cause I remember this person being blond... Must have been some traveler."
Sora stopped by a couple times, to visit them like he promised. Whenever he got off the train, the group would stare at him. Then Sora would be his usually funny self, and they'd forget about it. For now.
One night, Hayner had a dream. A boy with blond hair and blue eyes was sitting on the tower with them, and they were all holding out different colored crystals from a trophy the blond had won during the tournament. But he thought Setzer had won...? He woke up and a name was on the edge of his lips... "Ro..." And he couldn't remember the rest.
Today, while he was sitting on the clock tower alone, a red head sat next to him. He was wearing a long black coat and gloves. He stared out at the sunset. Then, he turned to Hayner.
"I miss him too." And then, the red head got up and walked off. Hayner was startled, and ran after him.
"Wait! Do you know his name? !" The man glanced behind him at Hayner. The boy looked so desperate, Axel wanted to tell him. But he just shook his head sadly and walked on down the stairs.
Disappointed, Hayner went back to sit at his spot. He gazed out at the sunset and then lifted his arm up. He pretended that he was holding the gem from his dream.
And suddenly, a gust of wind went by, and he wasn't there anymore. He was with his friends, all three of them, as they all held their gems together. Hayner took a close look at the boy, who was smiling at him.
Then he was back in the real world. Hayner looked around, hoping that it hadn't been just some sort of hallucination. A name appeared in his mind.
"Rox...as..."
AN: My first fanfiction. Please, feel free to leave constructive criticism, or reviews. If, for some reason, you think I have ripped off yours or someone else's story, tell me and I will immediately take it down. I have not looked through any of the stories on FF, but I know this has to be a popular theme, so there are probably a few similar stories.
