Gaara always loved blood. Gaara loved watching it fall from the sky and splattering everything around Gaara crimson. Scarlet was Gaara's hair color, which made Gaara happy. That way, even if Gaara could never be caught in another "rain" storm, Gaara could always look at Gaara's blood-red locks and remember the Blood Rain.
Of course, the Blood Rain never ends, Blood Rain is eternal for killers, murderers. And that made Gaara of the Sand smile.
Gaara could always look at Gaara's favorite color for entertainment, look at Blood Rain splattering from screaming bodies, escaping the warm confines of body heat. Blood just wanted to be free, just like Gaara. Gaara didn't want to be a killer, Gaara didn't want all of those lives on Gaara's hands, bloodstains forever present on those pale, soft hands.
Gaara didn't like killing....At first. Then Gaara came to enjoy pain, Gaara loved watching others leak crimson liquid from their mouths, arms, hands, legs, insides, anywhere. Blood was wonderful, no matter where it came from.
Blood Rain made Gaara want to feel pain. Gaara wanted to know what it was like to be in pain, to bleed, to hurt. Gaara wanted Gaara's sand to leave Gaara for a day and let Gaara feel pain and hurt, watch Gaara's own blood splat on the ground. Gaara wanted what Gaara couldn't have. Gaara was not born to feel pain, to see his own blood. Gaara was born only to make others feel pain and hurt, and Gaara does not think it's fair.
Perhaps Gaara's blood wasn't red at all. Maybe Gaara's blood was green, like Gaara's eyes, or blue, like Naruto's. Maybe it was creamy white, like Hinata's, or pale like Gaara's skin. Maybe Gaara didn't have blood, but was truely empty inside. Gaara hoped that Gaara could feel pain someday, because Gaara knew that Gaara couldn't die. Poor Gaara could never die, the sand would protect Gaara forever and would not let Gaara feel pain or bleeding.
That made Gaara angry. Gaara liked the sand when it killed others for him, creating the Blood Rain. Gaara did not like when no one could hurt Gaara, this made Gaara feel sad. Gaara did not want to be different, Gaara wanted to be like others. Gaara did not want to want Blood Rain, Gaara just did. Gaara could do nothing about what it was that Gaara wanted, Gaara's likes and dislikes were determined before Gaara was born.
Gaara did not want to be born a monster. Being born a monster meant wanting to watch blood and wanting to bleed, never feeling physical pain.
Gaara wanted to trade Gaara's emotional pain for physical pain. Gaara wanted to bleed on the outside, to die. Gaara didn't want to live and only feel the pain of hatred.
Then Gaara died. Then Gaara's blood became part of the Blood Rain he loved so much.
Gaara was finally happy. Gaara was dying, Naruto had showed Gaara what love was and Gaara knew Gaara would never love or be loved. The clostest thing to love Gaara could ever feel was death.
Naruto made Gaara happy by killing Gaara. Gaara did not feel like a monster when Gaara died, Gaara felt like a true human, a person, a mortal. Gaara smiled as Gaara's blood spurted into the sky.
Then Gaara felt love. Gaara fell in love with Gaara's blood, which was staining the sky scarlet. The last thing Gaara felt before death was blood pouring onto Gaara's face.
Gaara was in love.
Gaara was in love with the Blood Rain, the blood raining down onto him.
