If She Stays
Adam's POV
'"If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay."
The words tumbled out of my mouth, as if it was scripted. Like I had stood in front of the mirror preparing what I was going to tell Mia. Sometimes I believe that she can actually hear everything around her, as if her body shut down but her brain still functioned as normal. Although I knew she was unaware of everything. I was almost certain... I had a feeling-
Then she squeezed my hand, and I swore I heard her shout,
"I want to stay," but of course I was delusional. After screaming to the top of my lungs that she moved, the nurses crowed round her – pushing me away from my girlfriend.
Everything after that was a blur, until the doctors announced she was fully awake. Running into her hospital room, I saw her beautiful blue eyes stare at me. Too many emotional swirling around them, for me to understand.
"I love you," I breathed, slowly stepping towards her.
Mia, my Mia was alive.
Except I knew as soon as I looked up at her, that she couldn't be with me. That even though she wasn't going away, I was going to lose her.
