Whispers filled the office as Mako began to put his desk back in place and his papers in order. His face showed no emotion for he was numb. Snickering came from the two desks closest to Beifong's office. How he hated those lazy, low-lifes. The firebender clenched his fists. Once everything was in place, he let out a sigh that he didn't even realize he had been holding in. A firm hand rested on his shoulder.

"Maybe you should take the rest of the day off, Mako." Beifong's eyes held sympathy. He nodded, unable to find his voice. Mako set out to what would now be a lonely apartment.

Tears poured down her cheeks, escaping from red, puffy eyes. Korra hadn't been able to hide her tears from him, not even for a second. 'How could he? How DARE he?!' . While she knew their relationship had been on the rocks since the Civil war had started, she would have never of guessed things would end like this. Korra ran till she reached the dock, hijacking a small motorboat that was probably a fisherman's. With haste she untied it from its restraints and set off at full speed to the Fire Nation. 'He betrayed me! I loved him!'. Bending the water, she pushed the boat faster as Republic City grew smaller and smaller. What she didn't notice was the ominous glow in the deep water.

Mako shut the door to the apartment, the black on the unlit room taking over him. He began to walk towards the bedroom, removing his uniform until he was completely naked. His eyes wondered around the room, taking in the memories that he and Korra had made in this room, romantically and just casual conversation. The fights they would have in the living room and the sweet whispers as he would hold her in his arms under the warm blankets. A heavy weight pushed on his chest and he squeezed his eyes shut, pushing himself to the comfortable numb feeling. He wasn't ready just yet. Heading to the bathroom, he began to fill the tub.

The glowing grew brighter, shining against the harsh waters. Korra's eyes widened, her heart racing as the huge sea creature arose. A dark spirit. Using its tentacles, it smashed the stolen boat, throwing the Avatar into the waves. Waterbending, she began to fight back. This only made the beast angrier. Her Uncle flashed through her mind. Korra may not trust him anymore, but for the moment, his technique was the only proven thing to work. She took her stance and the gold rings began to appear around the beast. 'I did it!' She thought, slowing her motions to stop the process, but she ended it too soon. A twisted shriek filled the air and the beast attacked her, diving with its mouth wide open. The Avatar being dragged to the ocean's depth.

The warm water couldn't prevent the shivers that ran down Mako's spine. The numbness began to slip away as his heart began to ache. Breathing began to hurt as the shivers turned to trembling. His fists clenched. 'I did the right thing….didn't I?'. Tears began to run down his face. The firebender closed his eyes and held his breath, sliding under the water to be lost in his troubled thoughts. He let it consume him.
