Untitled 59
'Hi.'
She looked up, and despite the smile on her lips, tears glistened in her eyes. 'Hi.'
He was instantly concerned, and he crossed the room in long, hurried strikes. He knelt down in front of her, placing his hands on her knees. 'What happened? Are you okay?'
She nodded. 'I'm fine. It's just…' She raised her hand and gently traced around the stitched-up cut on his forehead, and then ran it through his still bloody hair. She looked at him, and her eyes were filled with misery. 'I did this to you.'
He shook his head, smiling positively at her. 'Oh, no baby, don't think that. I asked for this match, remember? It was all me.'
'I got so scared when I first saw the blood,' she said. She pulled her fingers away from his hair and looked at them, obviously dismayed. They were smeared red.
He took her bloody fingers in his hand and lifted the hem of his T-shirt, wiping them clean as best as he could. 'Listen to me, I'm not hurt at all. And I won the match. That's all that matters now.'
'But it's not,' she countered softly. 'I should never have agreed to the steel cage in the first place. I know what those kind of matches can be like, and I knowingly put you in one.'
'I also asked for the steel cage. Please, don't blame yourself.' He could see tears forming in her eyes, and he cursed himself for having asked for the match in the first place. If he had known that this is how it would have affected her he might have had second thoughts.
'I've never been so scared before,' she said, her voice shaking. 'Even when Hunter got injured and we thought that he was never going to wrestle again, I was more disheartened than scared. When I saw you out there, all I could think about was that I had placed the man I love in such a situation. That it was me who did that to you.'
He framed her face in both his hands, pushing back her loosened hair from her face. Gently, he forced her to look at him. 'I'm not going to lie to you. I was also scared, but I'm okay now. I knew exactly what I was getting into when I asked for the match.'
She sighed. 'I don't understand why I'm like this. I've been around this business all my life, and all that time I was with Hunter. I know that it's almost an everyday occurrence that someone gets hurt…' She trailed off, her eyes clouding with uncertainty. 'But with you, it's different. Every time you go out to that ring I get butterflies in my stomach, and I…I…I don't know what I would do if something happened to you.'
He felt his heart twist. 'Baby, I promise you, nothing will happen to me.' He smiled at her. 'I have a life, a future, with you to look forward to. Do you really think that I'm going to jeopardise that?'
She smiled back, her face finally lighting up. 'You think we have a future?'
He leaned forward, placing a butterfly kiss on her cheek before pulling her into his arms. 'We have a very bright future.'
