Me and My Old Man

"This is not logical."

"Relax, Spock."

"If I am me and you are also me, this means I am in two places at once. It is not physically possible."

"Not everything is logical, Spock."

"You are also Vulcan. Does this not mean you should be a logical being as well?"

"You are still half human. Do not forget that; it is a big part of you."

"Yes, I can understand that. Things are subjective, I suppose. But I cannot comprehend this. You are me?"

"I am you."

"This is not logical..."

"Please look at me, Spock. I want you to understand."

"I shall look at you if you like."

"Thank you. Spock, I am you from the future. I should not be speaking with you; it may destroy the entirety of space and time."

"Why are you speaking to me if that is the consequence? It's not logical."

"Boy, not everything is logical. I want you to know that everything will be okay."

"You know my state because you are me."

"Yes."

"...From the future."

"Yes."

"But what about mother? And Uhura? You are right – my human emotions are beginning to leak through, and I am unsure how to control them. I am depressed and angry and scared all at once."

"You do not know how to be anything but logical. Acting upon emotional desires means acting on impulse, or acting selfishly, or acting for no rational reason at all. Spock?"

"Yes?"

"I want to confirm for you, in your current logical state, that all of these feelings you cannot control will be easier to tame in the near future. Do not give up, do not get frustrated. Most importantly, do not push people away. Uhura will not be the only one to come to mean a lot to you."

"What are you implying?"

"Captain Kirk will become a very dear friend. He may seem..."

"Dismal?"

"I would say smug or arrogant would be a much better judgement. You find him dismal because he is so content in his emotional state. Listen to him. He will help you cope."

"Thank you."

"I must be off, Spock."

"You are leaving now? Is that all you have come to do?"

"I do not need you falling into a state of melancholy, Spock. I had come to save you from yourself."

"I wish to convey my gratitude."

"You are very welcome, Spock."

"Goodbye Spock of the future."

"A proper departure is inappropriate, seeing as how I know how your life will play out – I shall only leave you with these words. Live long and prosper."
