The quiet setting sun reflected golden light in Jack's living room, as SG1 sat grouped silently around, each going over in their minds the exhausting events of the day.
"Anyone for a beer, ?" Jack asked, tossing one each to Jonas and Sam, who was sitting cross legged on the rug in front of the fireplace, staring at the flames warming the room. "Sure, sir, thanks," she said quietly, leaning back against a leather footstool. "I've just been over things in my mind, about Daniel, and Ska'ara, and I know that Daniel would have done anything to save the people of Abydos. I know that all those people we saw when we came back were dead. I just wish that it didn't have to be that way. I know that we are supposed to be strong, but Ska'ara was a friend to us. I just feel awful that he died, and hope that being ascended, where ever he is, is somewhere he will be happy. And I"m afraid of what is to come, I guess. Afraid of losing others we care about." Her voice broke and she took a sip of beer, staring into Jacks brown eyes as he sat down close to her on the rug. He put his arm around her shoulders and squeezed comfortingly.
" I know I wish Ska'ara would have given us a little more information about how to defeat Anubis, about how we can win this, Carter, but the thing is that we have to trust. Trust that Daniel might come back. Trust that someday we will beat Anubis, trust that Ska'ara and the people of Abydos didn't die in vain. Trust in Ska'ara's words, that death is only the beginning of the journey. And you heard what he said, I'm going to be around for a while yet. I'm not leaving you, Carter ", Jack said gently, smiling at her through the seriousness in his dark eyes.
"Good to know, sir, " she whispered, leaning her head down softly on his shoulder, finding comfort in his strength, as always. "And he did say that you would find your way." She looked down at their hands clasping together, at the warmth and compassion that this man of few words conveyed with just a simple touch of his hand on hers.
"Someday, Carter, someday ", he answered quietly.
