One stripes just a stripe. Two is just a curve more, carefully beginning a chain that likely stretch out forever. Three is the marker for eternity as each stripe following becomes more than just a line on paper or a curved stripe on a bee.
She smiled as she laid a gentle hand down on the page and carefully traced lines that reminded her even slightly out of the designer, and on the corner of the page was carefully written, 'Do you want one?' in looping cursive. Chloe couldn't help her beaming smile as she got up to just go tell her that, yes, she did.
The design was all too reminscient of their past, of a chance once stolen, now taken, a chance gifted after mistrust leads to eventual trust, a slow process that never seems to fade so easily. Chloe may have been Queen Bee for however long she was needed for, but even the stolen moments became a little something else.
Something had changed from that first, true chance, and something had changed over the years. "Hey, Dupain-Cheng?" She got a kick out of calling her that especially since she had that ring on her finger that promised that that would change soon, "Yes, I want one."
"You do?" Amusement lit up her friend's voice from the other side of the phone, "I can make you one."
"I'd love that." Chloe couldn't help how sparked and lit up her joy sounded.
"Okay, but you'll have to let me make Alya's design first." Marinette laughed, and Chloe shook her head. Marinette hadn't changed.
"You better get mine ready soon or Mom would not be happy that you kept her daughter waiting." Chloe grumbled as if there was any barb to her voice anymore or at all; no barb really clung to it anymore. Those days had long passed, though when they actually fought, you'd believe that they were still fourteen, that they were still just so angry with each other, as if nothing really had changed.
"Okay, okay!" Marinette teased, still biting back laughter on the other end, "Alya texted me before you called, and so hers is first."
"Actually, you're designing something for Adrien first, right?" Chloe teased, though she was still a hundred percent sure that Marinette did show Adrien his design face to face and before everyone else when she did decide to make something based off of their superhero identities from the old days.
"I am." Marinette admitted, not letting that be hidden from the light. She was still absolutely smitten with her cat themed partner, once just a partner in a mask, now a man that she was ready to walk down the aisle and marry.
"I thought so." Chloe admitted, with a half of a smirk, even though she really wasn't anywhere where she needed to hide it, "How come I'm after Alya and not second?"
"I've known Alya for longer." Marinette retorted though Chloe just rolled her eyes even though her friend couldn't see her, yet.
"You've known me for longer. Alya started up class years after I'd been in the same class as you." She sniffed, feigning genuine anger, though really, she knew what Marinette meant.
"Okay, I've known you for longer, but we didn't talk as actual friends until Alya became my best friend." Marinette answered, sounding tired suddenly, though Chloe doubted that she really was.
"You don't have to pretend." Chloe sighed as if she truly couldn't read Marinette by now. Years of being her friend, years of fighting by Ladybug's side, had taught her a thing or two about reading 'Dupain-Cheng.'
"Okay." Marinette answered, simply, and Chloe wondered if Marinette already knew that she was right outside her door and about to knock. Either way, there was something special about a friendship that took years to get off the ground.
