Hello,

Okay so this idea came from Elizabeth Odessky story, 'Stage Presence'. If you haven't read it, you should...it is awesome. I based this oneshot off of fact number xx.

Worthwhile

"I can't do it!" Maureen shouted as she paced outside Joanne's hospital room.

Mark was the lucky one who was sent to calm Maureen down, but the drama queen was hard to handle when she was frantic.

"Please calm down Maureen." Mark said in a low voice, his eyes catching onto the other people who were now starting to stare.

"How can I calm down!? The love of my life was admitted into the hospital not even an hour ago. But I can't…I can't go into that room, too many bad things have happened here…four to be exact, and would if Joanne is the fifth!?"

"She's not going to be the fifth…" Mark assured her, and successfully put an arm around Maureen's shoulders. "This is totally different; everything is going to work out fine."

Maureen shook her head, her eyes scanning the area around them. White walls, doctors in uniforms, it was all so haunting, and it brought back bad memories. "Oh God…I think I'm going to be sick…"

"Okay, okay…just take deep breaths." Mark said pulling Maureen down into a chair next to him. "Everything is going to be one hundred percent fine."

"How do you know, are you a doctor?" Maureen fired.

"No, but Joanne is in good hands, and she needs you to be strong, come on Mo, Joanne is in there right now with doctors and nurses, people she has never met before, don't you think you should be in there with her? She needs you."

"I don't think I can do it, it's too much." Maureen said and then began to cry.

Mark simply wrapped his arms around Maureen, letting the drama queen cry out her feelings, holding her as close as possible. She sobbed on his chest for a good ten minutes until a nurse came out and requested for Maureen.

"Uh…Ms. Johnson, your wife is asking for you."

Maureen slowly looked up, wiping her tears away. "Okay. I'll be in there in a second."

The nurse nodded and retreated back into the room.

Maureen slowly stood up, Mark standing with her. Maureen eyed Mark, getting a nod of encouragement from him.

"She needs you…" Mark said with a smile. "Now go in there. I'll be right out here if you need me."

"Okay…" Maureen sniffled and then slowly made her way into Joanne's room.

About two hours later Maureen stood next to Joanne's bedside, holding onto her lover's hand with all her might. A few seconds later a nurse walked over to Maureen, the diva wearing no expression at all, that is until the nurse spoke.

"Here you are…" The nurse smiled while handing Maureen a small blue bundle of joy. "It's a boy."

Maureen couldn't help but let tears stream down her face as she took her child in her arms. She sat on the bed next to Joanne, and the two gazed at their little baby.

"I can't believe it Joanne…we're parents." Maureen whispered.

Joanne reached out, grabbing onto the little fingers. "I know."

Maureen handed Joanne the baby. The door then quietly opened and Mark walked into the room.

"Mark…come meet our son." Maureen said, not able to wipe the smile off her face.

Mark walked to the other side of Joanne, admiring the little baby in the lawyer's arms. Maureen made eye contact with Mark, giving him a thank you smile, before her eyes fell back to her beautiful baby, and the love of her life, her family. Everything was fine, and everything was going to be okay. And then it hit Maureen, all of this, in this moment made her life all worthwhile.
