Noah's Ark

"Cold, cold, cold" Kate whined as she walked down the basement steps.

Gibbs smiled and came to her aid with one of his old sweatshirts. He tugged it down over a messy head of brunette and led her to her work table. She smiled as he pulled out her chair for her and tucked her in with a blanket. Once she sat down, she started tugging boxes out of the shelves at her side. She then set them on the sturdy pine top in front of her and began to unsnap them and remove their contest. She lined the paints up by shades and experimented with mixing a couple colors on her easel before she reached for one of the wooden animals that sat on a shelf between her working space and Gibbs's.

She grabbed one of the white painted giraffes and began covering it with the orangeish yellow she just mixed. She paid special attention to detail. Which meant coloring the inside of its ears with a soft pink, making sure it's spots were a drastically different color from the rest of its body, and covering it's hoofs and tail in a soft black. When she finished painting the giraffe she penciled the date one the bottom of one of its hoofs and set it on a separate shelf.

This was their nightly ritual now. Come home, eat dinner, watch the news, clean the kitchen, go downstairs, work together, and go to bed. The wooden animals and Noah's Ark had been Kate's husband's idea. He said that their daughter would deserve more than a Play People plastic one and had immediately started his work, shaping and chiseling the tiny animals that would one day fill their child's playroom. Kate rubbed her stomach as she smiled up at her husband, she was due in the beginning of September, and it was currently late July.

Gibbs shot her a worried glance and she reassured him that everything was alright. He had become very protective these last few months; someone couldn't look at her for more than a second without him jumping at them anymore. Why Tony found it rather annoying, she found it rather cute. She knew what had happened to his first daughter and knew this baby girl would be so protected they'd give Witness Protection a bad name. No one would ever hurt this baby. Gibbs handed her an elephant and she covered it in primer and sat him on the shelf before she looked over at her husband wide eyed.

"I love you" she said softly. Not knowing why the words were so important for her to say at this moment, they seemed to be right though for he turned and smiled at her, smiled so wide the crinkles at the corner of his eyes doubled.

"I love you too Katie Love," he kissed her lips softly, "and I love little Mary Kelly just as much." He lent down and covered Kate's round stomach with soft kisses.

Kate smiled down at him; his sheer love for both of them was amazing to see. She laid her head on top of his and thanked God for the wonderful blessing he'd given her.

A/N: You know what to do.
