The Way Things Are

Chapter 1- The Journey That Would Change My Life

Some kids have all the luck. They are born into a perfect family with the perfect house, and a perfect life. Me, I am not one of those kids. My father left me when I was one year old, my house; it's on top of four sender blocks in a trailer park in Texas. It was a deserted part of the state. I don't even know what city it's in. I remember when I was younger, I used to ask my mom why things were as hard as they were but, she really didn't care enough about my well being to explain. So she would always say, "because that's the way things are," and nothing else was said or done. Oh yea, and I don't go to school. We did didn't have enough money. Some kids would love not to have to go to school, but when you think about it, school is where you meet most of your friends. Therefore, I have none. What an awesome life eh?

There is one thing I try to learn about though. Horses. Living in a place like this, there are a bunch of them around. I've noticed that they travel in herds, and are made up of mares, foals, and one stallion. There wasn't very good grazing ground around here so they would usually just pass by. There was one particular heard that would always stop here once a year though, and there would always be one horse close behind them. It wouldn't take anyone to long to figure out that he was a loner. His main had big chunks taken out from it where he had been in fights with other stallions, and so obviously lost, and scares were repeatedly exposed all over his body. He was so banged up that you could hardly tell his natural coat color was chestnut. "You and me both poor fella," I would always think. I had a few battle scares to show myself. They were from special occasions when my mother would go all psycho on me and well….. I guess you know the rest.

Some you might be wondering why I just haven't gotten up and ran away from this place of hell. Well, I've been wondering that myself lately and I have decided that I will. Heck, its not like I'd be missing anything, and no one would miss me. Have I even mentioned my name? Well, if not its Marisa. Marisa Kaflin and this is the beginning of the journey that would change my life.

This is the end of the first chapter/introduction. It's kind of short but if you like it there will be more. So please review and let me know if you do. Oh, and just to let you know, this story is NOT about me. I just thought it up randomly, and the name Marisa Kaflin, I totally made it up. Anyways if you like it I will continue.
