This is a story about a Long Patrol sub, in a modern Redwall world, of course.

The LPS Deodar bobbed around in the stormy seas. She was a Tussock class submarine, an old but reliable tub.

On the bridge, a mouse on watch spotted something in the distance. The watch officer looked through his binoculars and saw a ship.

A vermin raider.

"Contact, bearing zero-four-zero, moving fast, closing, long range. A vermin raider!"

"Clear the bridge! All paws battle stations! Dive, dive, dive!" yelled the captain over the intercom.

As the watch crew clambered down the ladder, hatches were sealed and the electric motor drive system was engaged as the submerged.

"All ahead full, bring us to course zero-four-zero, prep tubes one through four for firing," ordered Captain Willowtail, a squirrel.

"All ahead full, course zero-four-zero aye."

"Tubes one through four full readiness aye."

Quietly and invisibly the LPS Deodar crept towards its prey.

Cap'n Bloodsnout of the raider Bloodthunder was arguing with his sonar ferret. "So you thought you heard fast screws?"

"Yes! And I can still hear them, Dumbsnout!"

"Nobody calls me Dumbsnout and lives, mate!" Bloodsnout pulled out a pistol and emptied the clip into the unfortunate ferret. "Take him away! Halfear, take over!"

"Sonar, estimate range to target, one ping," ordered Willowtail.

"Range estimate is three-five-zero-zero meters."

"Weps, open tubes one through four and give me a firing solution."

Halfear distinctly heard the ping. So did Bloodsnout. "What was that noise?"

"I-I think a sub is pinging us!" said Halfear, frightened.

"Everyone to battle stations! Start throwing out the depth charges!"

The LPS Tussock shook as the charges exploded, but no real damage was done.

"Fire all tubes!" shouted the captain.

"There's a torpedo in the water! No four of them, in front of us!" shouted Halfear.

"Hard right turn! Hard right turn!" ordered Bloodsnout.

Unfortunately, the right turn took them right into the torpedoes. All four hit, blowing massive holes in the hull and doing incredible amounts of damage to everything inside. Vermin raiders are fast, but have almost no armor. The Bloodthunder had gone down in under a minute.

Nearby, the LPS Deodar surfaced, returning to course to continue her patrol.
