Title: Those distant stars
Character/Pairing: Athrun/Cagalli, Kira, big family moment
Style: Ficlet
Genre: Gen - mostly/fluff
Rating: PG
Spoilers: End of SEED (not Destiny)
Theme: 14 - Elevator Love Letter/ It's a nuclear show and the stars are gone
Notes: I do like this one. It's cute and not depressing and contains scientific fact! Well, kind of. Nuclear radiation does block most forms of communication that we have.
Twinkle.
Stars glint in and out of focus, eyes blinking in a similar fashion those pinpoints of light reflecting off them.
Twinkle.
They close, shuttering for a split second. Then eyelashes flutter back up again, eyes clear.
Fade.
They focus on those fuzzy stars. They blink again and deliberately as radiation blurs around them, clouding out objects around them.

He is glad for the suit and its helmet, the many thin layers between him and vacumn that is space. Glad for, when he moves his head slightly to the side, that red suit swimming (for no better word) towards him. Glad for the gradually clearing sky, radiation spreading out, becoming less concentrated.
"Hey." That red suit bobs up in front of him, bright eyes silently glad though somewhat misty.
"Hey." Smiles are exchanged between them as they nod in the other's direction.
"Your suit held up well. Mine fell apart almost immediately." The helmet glances around. "I don't suppose you've heard anything about Kira?"
He shakes his head. "Leftover radiation is still fogging up communications. We won't be able to hear a thing until it disperses." He looks to the wreckage of his mobile suit. "The cockpit is still intact, we could search for Kira."
"But there's-" she threw a desperate glance around her, "It's space Athrun! He could be anywhere!" Her thrashes of frustration are stopped as he reaches for her hand, lightly leading her towards the ruined mobile suit.
"We can always look at the stars, even though we can't reach them." A smile drawing them closer.
