Hotaru was in her lab working on her inventions as Mikan walked in with Ruka complaining about Natsume. Again. "All he does is threaten me, bully me, picks on me, calls me names, how am I supposed to live with this?" Mikan complained. "He is a good person once you get to know him." "I DON'T WANT TO GET TO KNOW HIM!" Mikan yells at Ruka. "Have some of this," Hotaru says handing her a drink. "Thanks, Hotaru! You are the only friend I have." Mikan drinks up the liquid and in seconds..."Hey, what is in...this."
*thud.
"Now I can work in peace." Ruka shook Mikan but nothing happened. "What did you do?!" Hotaru didn't answer. "What. Did. You. Do. To. Her." "Just gave her a sleeping drug. She wines way too much." Hotaru said. Ruka sighed with relief. "Why?" "She is annoying." Ruka just tilted his head. "She says she followed you here because she wanted to see you. Now she is in the school and isn't supposed to be here. You can't even-" "I didn't ask her. She wanted to come. Her choice. And I chose to ignore it." Hotaru said. "She only had me as a friend. But I left to let her grow."
She was still working but the noises from her machines were too loud.
"And that was that." She finished. "I didn't hear any of that!" Ruka yelled. "Fine! I left so she would grow up! She clings to me like a helpless baby! What was I supposed to do? I didn't want to leave either but look where we are now!" Ruka fell to the floor. He has never heard Hotaru yell or scream before.
"What is with all the noise?" Natsume walked in. "Natsume." Ruka was about to say something but Hotaru spoke first. "Please take her out of here. I can't have her get hurt while I'm working." She went back to her thing. Natsume just stood there. "You care but you don't show it."
Hotaru sighed walked right up to Natsume and looked right into his eyes. "She needs someone else. You want to protect her but you don't let her see the weakness in you." Hotaru was challenging him? "Ruka can do that. I will not. Everyone I know gets's killed."
Hotaru got even closer to his face and whispered something. "It's not my name she speaks of when she has a nightmare." And that was that. Natsume lost and Mikan woke up. "Hotaru? What is that-Natsume!" He walks out of the room and Mikan chases after him.
"That was-" Ruka saw the look on Hotaru's face. She was crying. "I would do anything for her. Even push her away from me." She was telling the truth? Mikan calls for Natsume in her sleep?
All Ruka could do was pat her shoulder. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm around. And so are my animal friends too." He gives her a smile and she stops crying. "Thanks. Now, I must get back to it!" There she goes.
Ruka pulled a pack of gum out and handed her a piece. "Want one?" He offered. Hotaru smiled and took one. "Sure. Thanks. I do like gum. ANd Chocolate. But don't tell Mikan!" SHe said. Ruka laughed. "I promise I won't."
