After two and a half months of the blistering Mexico sun, I'm going back to beautiful Hillridge! Don't take me wrong, I love my family in Mexico, but Hillridge is home and where my life is.
I look out the window of the plane and see a blanket of white clouds and a blue sky. The blue reminds me of the color of my dear friend, Gordo's eyes. Yet, his eyes are even clearer than the sky and, I dare say, even prettier. I've known for a while that I've had a crush on Gordo, but I also know he loves Lizzie and I just want him to be happy, even if that means I am not in the picture romantically.
Lizzie called me when she got back from Rome while her parents were at a Boy Scouts meeting with Matt. She told me EVERYTHING about Rome. From the plane ride with Gordo there to the ride back sitting with her parents. She told me that she kissed Gordo and I almost threw up. I mean, let's face it, it would be like watching your brother and sister kiss. It would be different if she ever showed any interests in him before that conversation. Well, she did not really say she was interested in it. She said it nonchalantly, as if it was a story about her brother torturing her with a water gun.
My heart broke for Gordo. He called me once while I was gone and sounded miserable. I asked him what was wrong, but he just relied with "I think I'm just dehydrated from mowing lawns." He had started a little business to make some money for a new camera, that boy and his movies. I chuckled to myself as I remember the countless movies he has of Lizzie and I making complete arses of ourselves just for him and his camera.
The seat buckle light came on and I click the buckle together and took a deep breath. I didn't know what to expect when I walk out of this plane. I haven't talked to my two best friends in months. I didn't know if they forgot about me or not. I cannot say I'd blame them.
The plane rolls up to the gate and the pilot announces that we can get up and make our way out to our loved ones.
"Here goes nothing," I say to no one in particular.
