Hero's Price
by Tacoma Squall
I look at my home,
Desecrated by Wrexsoul -
The darkness swallowing
The ghosts of the past.
Are they better off now,
Better off than when I
Utterly failed them -
When the Empire swept in?
I alone survive now,
And in my agony -
I don't understand
Why I was chosen.
I look at the others,
I can understand them.
For the life of me,
Why do they keep me?
All I have are ghosts,
Are they enough for me?
What right do I have
To live anymore?
A warrior of faith,
Focused through his fists.
A vagabond woman,
Looking for an identity.
A hunter of treasure,
Seeking his beloved.
A disgraced general,
Looking for redemption.
A gambler, rolling
Dice against Mistress Fate.
A Warrior-King,
Trying to save his kingdom.
Joined by others are we,
But the others have cause
To band together
With these Returners.
But no more should suffer
The fate of my people.
Kefka will destroy them
All, if he succeeds.
The death of all life
At the hands of a madman
Is one price I cannot,
Will not contemplate.
I will bear the burden
Of life past my time -
For the people yet living,
That their time comes not.
