I don't think I deserve her. But here she is, lying in my arms. Her eyes are closed, her breath is even, and I don't think I'll ever sleep when I see how gorgeous she truly is when she sleeps. Sierra is the one ray of light in my life right now. And the only thing that keeps me from the asylum. The clock says it's half past one, and the lumpy mattress in this shitty motel room is no help at all. I don't want to move and wake her up.

Her pretty red and black hair is all over the place, silky and smooth. It smells like apples. She spends a lot of time on her hair.

Sierra's fingernails graze the back of my shoulder when I breathe in. It tickles and, hell, I'd kinda like it to stop, but then I feel like; if it stops, that might mean she's gone. I can't deal with her being gone.

But did I mention that she's beautiful when she sleeps? Not that she's not beautiful awake, but I like her sleeping because she doesn't look so worried. She's always scared that we're going to get caught. My answer's always the same. "Babydoll, everything's cool. Just drive to the next town. The next town'll be better."

She doesn't like it, this lifestyle I lead, but she puts up with it. For me. Because she wants me to be happy. She makes me happy.

Our lifestyle…driving across the country, staying in towns across America, small towns, and murder. Now, that don't sound so pretty, huh? But that's what we do. And Sierra's always scared of getting caught.

I could lay here and contemplate her all night long. Really. But when I shift to relieve some pain, her blue eyes shoot open.

"Jack?" She grips me tighter. "What's wrong?"

I chuckle. "Nothing, Babydoll. Nothing's wrong. Just thinking."

"About what?" She curls closer to me.

I smile in her direction. "Nothing important. Go back to sleep, Babydoll."

Sierra yawns and closes her eyes. It's great to see her comfortable for once. I know by tomorrow that she'll be back to her normal worried self. But you know what? That's fine with me. Because she'll always be my Babydoll.
