AN: Just a short sequel to 'Wake up call'. I wanted to explore the conversation between Grissom and Catherine. I don't own CSI or anything related to it. If there are enough people interested, there might be a sequel...
And the winner is…
"Well, well. What do we have here?" Grissom mumbled as he entered the hotel room at the Mirage. There were two bodies in the room, a man and a woman, lying on the bed. Both were naked from the waist up, their lower bodies covered by a sheet. The man had been shot twice in the chest, and the woman in the abdomen and head. It appeared as if they had been shot while sleeping.
"Wife found the husband and the mistress in bed together, shoots them and then kills herself." Catherine said, coming out of the bathroom. "Nice of you to join me."
"Where's the wife?" Grissom asked, ignoring Catherine comment.
"In there." She motioned back to the bathroom. Grissom passed her and walked into the it. A woman was lying in the half full tub, wrists slit.
"Your theory makes sense." He noted. "But we still need to process the scene."
"Already started." Catherine told him. "I've printed the entire bathroom, and was about to start on the rest of the room."
"I'll join you." They went back into the main room, and Grissom opened his kit. Catherine watched him as he retrieved the tools he needed for the task.
"So…" She started as he set about dusting one of the bedside tables for prints.
"We should get to work." He replied sharply, not taking his eyes off the task at hand.
"I just wanted to know how long." Catherine continued, unthreatened by the tone in his voice.
"Catherine…" He said in a warning voice, which she, of course, ignored.
"Look, I just want to know who won, that's all." She knew that would get his attention. And it did. He looked up at her.
"Won what?" He asked, frowning.
"The bet." Catherine said in a casual tone, getting her own kit and starting on the other bedside table.
"What bet?"
"Well, it's been so obvious over the past couple of weeks, we got a little bet going." Catherine shrugged and faked complete focus on the table in front of her as she felt his eyes on her.
"Who's 'we'?" He wondered, and Catherine could hear that he was getting nervous.
"Oh, just me and the guys." She replied. "So, how long?" Grissom sighed on the other side of the bed.
"A little over a year." He obliged, knowing she'd find out eventually. Maybe it was time to go public, anyway.
"Damn it, Warrick!" Catherine exclaimed.
"So I take it Warrick is the lucky winner?" Grissom assumed, returning to dusting the bedside table.
"He bet that it started after Nick's abduction. Nick thought that it was only a couple of weeks ago, after Jim got shot. Jim said that it must have been going on longer than that, since Sara came to Vegas. Greg refused to take any part of it, he's still in denial. And I thought you finally came to your senses after Sara was suspended, over the domestic abuse case." Catherine counted off the partakers of the bet on her fingers.
"Then I guess nobody won." Grissom said after she was done.
"What do you mean?" Catherine wondered.
"Well, Warrick was closest, but I actually 'came to my senses' before Nick was taken, after the case in the mental hospital." He revealed.
"Then I guess the winner is…" Catherine raised an eyebrow.
"I think that would be me."
