None of the Layton & Co. belong to me. sadly. This story and idea belong to me Set around... The Unwound Future and before those who belong in the present come back I made a few tweaks to my version of this story. P.S. Luke is very angsty about things.
One final note- Those who have played the third game Clive the name for the is kinda... so I changed it to what everyone normally thinks that his name is (which is Klaus.)
Inspector Chelmey asked the professor, "So Layton, the deal is that you take Klaus as your apprentice into the the present time and if he doesn't cause trouble then I shan't put the cuffs on this boy alright?"
Professor Layton thought the deal for a moment and decided, " Alright. You have yourself a deal, Inspector."
Luke wondered, ? Why is he coming back to the present with us? Why does the Professor accept this? Shouldn't he belong in his time (the future)? I don't understand... Why? confusion flashed in his eyes as he watched the Professor and Inspector shake to the deal. As he contemplated about the current situation, he didn't notice that Celeste had crept behind.
Her face contorted with worry. Celeste, who is actually Clair, asked with a worried tone. "Luke? Is something wrong? You look a bit pale..."
"Huh? Oh ummm... I'm alright I was... just thinking about how long I have been away at home... ." he answered with a small smile.
Nodding in understanding she bent down and whispered to Luke " Well since you have the Professor and you are such a wonderful apprentice. I want you to keep this for me, alright?"
Looking down at what she was to give him, he gasped and whispered feverishly, " Bbbbbbbbbut this watch looks quite expensive! I do not have the right to take this Celeste!"
Then, before he could react she put the gold pocket watch, that her Hershel gave, into his hands and looking sad she said, "No Luke. Promise to me that you will care for the Professor no matter what, alright?"
Confused and bewildered, Luke stared at her and then to the watch and back at her. With no choice he sighed and half-answering and half- whispering, "Of course... even without this watch I will no... I shall always keep that promise no matter what may happen."
Celeste's face broke into a warm smile and as she lightly bent down. She quickly gave him a hug before running over to the Professor, claiming she needed to tell him something of importance and to follow her. As Celeste took the lead and disappeared, from the little party near the clock shop, curious, Luke followed the pair with stealth when Celeste and Layton finally reached an abandoned street. Luke, having the feeling that he wasn't wanted, quickly hid in a nearby alley and listened.
-SPOILER ALERT -
"Celeste?" asked the concerned professor as he noticed tiny tears forming on the edge of her eyes.
Celeste noticing the tears lightly laughed and she lightly said, "Professor. No. Hershel. I see that you have been wearing the hat I gave you. "
Suddenly everything clicked into place and Professor just stood there shocked. No it can't be. Can it? The Professor stared at her with tears also forming in his eyes and he asked "Clair?"
She lightly blushed and answered, "Oh, Hershel. It truly has been a long time. What took this puzzle so long to figure out?"
Laughing he answered, "First off you didn't let me use hint coins. Second this time you were in disguise and never let things click into place."
Scoffing, she lightly answered, "I must have been quite the puzzle then."
Light began to envelop her and this caught the Professor's attention.
